02/28/2015 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I met Sam, then Xanadu, last summer and fell in love with her sweetness. She was quickly adopted and just came back to us as her family if moving where she is not allowed. She lived with two adults, and interacted with young children with whom she liked to play. She also lived with a dachshund and liked to play with him and dogs of all sizes. It was clear when Sam and I were out together how much she likes other dogs as she wanted to meet each dog we saw. We’re also told that she’s housetrained, crate trained, loves to be brushed, knows ‘sit’, ‘give me paw’, ‘come’ and ‘stay’. She’s an active girl whose favorite games are chase and tug. Tail waggy and exuberant Sam was delighted to be outside, and her shiny coat just gleamed in the sunlight. She’s been beautifully taken care of, her weight is perfect for her size and she’s social and happy to make new friends. Great in play group she hasn’t yet met a dog she doesn’t like. A total wiggle butt when meeting new people, she’s welcoming of all. Sam has a big personality and lots of energy, so will do well in a home prepared to give her lots of exercise and play time. She’s an awesome little girl who’s ready to find a family for her happily ever after. If you’re looking for an exercise partner, look no further than Sam.
04/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sam pulls hard on leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up and mouthy (moderate). Sam was overexcited during handling, mouthy, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Sam took the toy away but had soft body language. She rushed in quickly during the dog-dog test, but showed no aggression. Sam was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Sam is friendly and social towards strangers and adults in the home. Sam has not been exposed to children. Sam loves to get attention from adults, will wag her tail and display an open mouth upon greeting a person. Sam may play somewhat rough, owner states Sam does not know how strong she is and will play bite at times as well. Sam does not get along with small dogs or cats. She will lunge when she comes across small dogs but Sam enjoys the presence of large, medium sized dogs and will play with them”. Sam is a very active and jumpy dog. He needs a significant amount of exercise, mental stimulation and training. The behavior department feels that he can go to an experienced adopter. We also recommend a home without young children; older children can be considered pending interaction. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. This tiny little girl in a dark brindle coat (think dark chocolate marble cake) won my heart yesterday. So soft and gentle she’s friendly and sweet in a low key kind of a way. As we walk outside she went potty indicating she’s likely housetrained, and we then walked easily to the park. She’s great on the leash with an easy lilting prancy step that’s beautiful to watch. She seems to like other dogs, perking up as some pass, wagging her tail gently in greeting. Resting her head in my hand she loves to be petted, and I feel her head getting heavier as I stroke her. As tiny as she is, she needs to gain a little weight and is being fed an extra meal daily to help her do so. A sweetheart, a gem, a gentle, low key soft girl, Xanadu is hoping to find a new best friend. Stop by and meet her today.
A volunteer updates:
I was as happy to greet Xanadu as she was to greet me – old friends, her tail wagging and dispensing soft kisses, Xanadu is a brindle delight. Low key, soft and gentle, her leash manners are great, and she sits quietly at my feet in the park as we watch the world go by. As groups of young kids pass she looks at them wistfully, making me think she had kids in her life at one time. Calm and loving, there is no other word to describe her other than SWEETHEART. Happy when giving soft kisses and sitting close to her person, Xanadu is looking for a new BFF. As happy as I was to see her, is as happy I will be to see her tail wagging as she goes home. Xanadu offers that calm and quiet friendship that can’t often be found. Lucky is the person who gets to make her part of their family.
