I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 07/21/2016 from NY 11209, owner surrender reason stated was ALLERGIES.

07/22/16 17:27 Basic Information: Sam is a 9 year old neutered Labrador Pit Bull mix that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. He received Sam from a friend. Socialization: According to the owner, around strangers, Sam is friendly and outgoing. Around adults and children, Sam is playful. He plays with adults in a rough manner. Owner does have another dog but never introduced because he did not known how Sam would react. Behavior with other dogs and cats is unknown. He has never bitten a person or another animal. Behavior: Previous owners stated that Sam doesn’t have any behavioral issues but is terrified of rain or thunder storms. Sam is not bothered when any food, treat, or toy is taken from him. The owner said Sam would eat his treats very fast or hold on to them. He is not bothered by baths but barks and growls, when having his nails trimmed. When someone unfamiliar approaches the home or yard, Sam may is bothered. Sam is not bothered when an unfamiliar person approaches his owner or a family member. For a New Family to Know: Sam is described as friendly, affectionate, and playful dog with a very high activity level. He knows sit, run, and come. When in the home, Sam is the type to be in the same room as you. When left alone in the home, Sam is well-behaved. When left alone in the yard, Sam is well-behaved. Sam would bark however, he would bark at the owners other dog that Sam was never introduced to. Sam’s favorite toy is a rope which he likes to play tug of war with. He was kept both indoors and outdoors. He was fed Purina dry dog food. He rarely has accidents and was not crate trained. For exercise, he enjoyed going for runs or jogs with the owner. On the leash, Sam does pull very hard. When off the leash, Sam would run away but when called would return to the owner. Sam usually would use the bathroom on the grass.

Sam came into our center as an owner surrender citing family developing allergies. It is reported he is playful around children and strangers. Behavior around cats is unknown. Previous owners stated that Sam is terrified of rain or thunder storms. Sam is not reportedly bothered when any food, treat, or toy is taken from him. He may bark and growl while having his nails trimmed. Sam is described as friendly, affectionate, and playful. He knows the cues sit, run, and comeFor exercise, he enjoyed going for runs or jogs with the owner. Same was calm and sociable upon entering SAFER assessment area. He held gaze for three full seconds during Look item, body soft. Sam leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, tail wagging. He playfully ran along during Tag game, hopping his body. Sam did not pull his paw back on both Squeeze attempts. He enthusiastically played with Toy, keeping a firm grip with loose body, play bowing at assessor, but did not relinquish easily and required a trade up. Sam would do best with an Experienced adopter. He may benefit from learning the command ‘drop it’ as well as engaging in trade up games. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Squeeze 1 / 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed Toy 1: 1.
