05/06/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Sally, Sally, Sally! This little girl really knows how to leave an impression. She is petite, has recently been a mom and has pleading eyes and a wiggly tail. She is incredibly affectionate and seems very gentle in everything that she does. She’ll let me pick her up, softly drape her paws across my lap and stay there, and hasn’t pulled once when I’ve walked her. When I entice her with a squeaky toy she cocks her head and romps after it when I throw it, but leaves it behind in favor of cuddling. She was cordial with her finder’s dogs, but didn’t really engage much with them, and should probably meet any potential canine housemates. She seems housebroken, loves treats and already knows “sit’ and “down.” And “down” is the perfect segue to belly rubs! If I stop petting her she’ll expose even more of her belly — irresistible! When I kneel down to get more comfortable she uses my legs as a pillow and when I stand up again she shimmies her back against the ground. She is too sweet! Sally would love the opportunity to leave an impression on you, too…please come meet her at Brooklyn ACC!
05/04/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Sally came in as a stray, the finder kept Sally overnight when she saw her roaming the streets. The finder stated Sally was around other large dogs, she was relaxed and gentle but did not engage in play with them. The finder mentioned she is friendly with strangers and enjoys being petted. At intake it was reported Sally was friendly and affectionate, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Sally came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and social towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Sally was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Sally was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Sally appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels she can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. Her eyes are averted and her ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. No interest.
