PROFILE:
Sakaran is a 2 year old male APBT mix. He was born at home. His owner is moving and had to surrender him his sister, Deedra.
SOCIALIZATION
Sakaran lived with an adult man. He is friendly/outgoing with new people. He’s relaxed, playful, and tolerant with children he meets. He plays exuberantly with adults and children and will reciprocate rough play when his owner wrestles with him. Sakaran lived with his parents, his sister, and multiple litters of puppies over time. He was relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played exuberantly with his mother, sister, and all puppies. When he was 6 months old, the family was sleeping when he and his father began growling at and then bit each other. Sakaran held and shook his father’s leg for ~20 seconds. The owner threw water on them and pulled them apart. Both dogs inflicted lacerations that the owner treated at home. He’s since kept these two apart. Outside on walks, Sakaran barks, growls, and lunges at strange dogs. Sakaran hasn’t bit anyone except as described above.
BEHAVIOR
Sakaran doesn’t mind when someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, bathes him, or brushes him. Sakaran is friendly/outgoing with strangers who approach his home/family.
FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW
Sakaran’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, happy, and high energy. He follows his owner. He plays fetch, chase, tug, and wrestles. He played with balls, stuffed toys, squeaky toys, and bones. He lived inside up until 6 months old and outside in the backyard with an 8′ chain-link fence since. Sakaran slept in a dog house. He ate dry Eukanuba food and rice. He is trained to potty on newspaper while inside and did this last night when his owner brought him inside. He potties anywhere outside. He’s well-behaved while home alone inside or in the yard. He went for brisk walks at the park with a muzzle on. He pulls on his leash.
INTAKE
Sakaran had a soft body, open mouth, and wagging tail while I pet him, scanned him (-), collared him, took his pictures, and switched his leashes. He leaned against me while I pet his head and sides and rolled onto his back while I pet his abdomen. He was tolerant and remained soft-bodied while his owner took his muzzle on and off.
SAFER:
Sakaran walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Sakaran followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. He was not interested in toys.

Playgroup Notes:
When introduced off leash to another dog in the care center, Sakaran is initially unsure of approach. He keeps to himself, however does eventually begin to loosen up. He wags his tail, body soft when appoached and solicited by the female greeter. Previou sowner cites “Sakaran lived with his parents, his sister, and multiple litters of puppies over time. He was relaxed, playful, tolerant, and played exuberantly with his mother, sister, and all puppies. When he was 6 months old, the family was sleeping when he and his father began growling at and then bit each other.” Based on in-sheler observation and owner history, the behavior team feels Sakaran should require thorough counseling, pre adoption interaction and slow introductions before being adopted to a home with another resident dog.
