09/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Saint came into the shelter as a stray; her past behaviors in a home are unknown. Behavior during intake: Saint was extremely friendly and allows all handling. During SAFER Saint walked into the room calm and relaxed; he was friendly and he had a loose body posture when interacting with the assessor, Saint allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Saint was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resource portion of the assessment. Saint was easy to handle when engaged with the items. Saint appears to be sociable, and did not display any behavior concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted, with tail wagging and ears back. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body; attempt to mouth leash disengages quickly. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup:Saint displays soft and social body language when interacting with male dogs. He displays slight assertive posturing, standing tall next to a nervous male dog, but is able to listen to hander interruptions and wander in the pen.
08/31/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Saint was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Saint displays soft body language when greeting other dogs. He may become slightly sexually motivated with female dogs and slightly assertive with male dogs, but is able to listen to handler interruption and wander in the pen. With further play group sessions, Saint has displayed bouncy body language. The Behavior Department recommends that Saint be placed in a home with dogs that match his calm energy level and that a dog-dog interaction be conducted with any potential adopter’s dog to ensure compatibility. 8/31: Saint greets the other dog displaying soft body language. He is slightly sexually motivated but does not attempt to mount. He is able to listen to handler interruption and wanders in the pen. 9/1: Saint displays soft and social body language when interacting with male dogs. He displays slight assertive posturing, standing tall next to a nervous male dog, but is able to listen to hander interruptions and wander in the pen. 9/3: Saint displays bouncy body language when interacting with male and female dogs. He is slightly sexually motivated, but immediately listens to handler interruptions and wanders in the pen. 9/4: Saint displays a tall posture and slightly tense body when meeting a confident male and female. He listens to the handler’s interruptions, and then wanders the pen. 9/8: Saint is social and displays bouncy body language when interacting with a female puppy. He is tolerant of her persistent greetings.
