01/20/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
01/20/16 13:31 Saint is a 6 year old brown male nuetered american pitbull terrier who is being surrendered because the owner can no longer care for him. Saint has been with his family for 4 years. Saint lived with 2 adults and no other animals. When visitors come to the home Saint will greet them quietly. Saint has been exposed to small children and is reported to be gently playful with the them and will lay down for belly rubs. When on leash walks he may be insistent but is responsive to guidance. When he enounters cats or squirrels he is indifferent. Owner reports he used to give chase but now is calm for this. When he encounters other dogs he will seek introduction but interactions should be monitored as he can react to a dog who is tense. Saint is tolerant for a bath and a nail trim. He does not guard his food toys or treats. If the owner takes his food while eating he will disengage but watch it being removed. He does not mind a bear hug for handling. He is not allowed on the bed or couch. He is not allowed of loud sharp noises. Saint knows the commands sit and stay and shake. He enjoys tugging games and plays fetch with a stick. He can distructive to a carpet with scratching. When the family is home he likes to be where they are and when home alone he is well behaved. He eats dry food but is allergic to chicken based food. Upon intake Saint was receptive to introduction and loose for all handling. Counselor was able to scan for microchip (positive) collar and photograph. Saint will sit for a treat and was responsive to guidance on leash.

01/22/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Saint previously lived with 2 adults and has been around small children. The owner stated Saint is gentle and playful towards the children and the adults. The owner mentioned Said can be destructive to carpet with scratching. The owner stated Saint is well behaved when home alone. At intake it was reported Saint was friendly and loose for all handling. During SAFER Saint came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Saint was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Saint was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Saint is reported to show destructive behavior in the home, such as scratching the carpet in the home. We are unaware of what, if any, attempts were made to remedy this behavior but we suggest to future adopters that Saint will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so Saint can engage in necessary chewing behavior without damage to human objects. The behavior department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, greets with a stiff body and tail well above his spine. Once he enters the pen, Saint is mostly sexually motivated but does respond well to the handler’s corrections.
