10/04/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes (as told by Rye): What goes good with Rye? Everything!! I’m fun and friendly, housetrained, playful and cuddly, I love people, I love to give kisses and stand up hugs. I love wagging my tail and smiling, and I love that people can’t resist meeting me. The person on the other end of my leash, her name is Volunteer, took me to the park where everyone wanted to meet me. She laughed and called me a people magnet, whatever that means. I love playing with my plush toy, tossing it around, and then bringing it over to my friend, Volunteer, to play tug. I know she let me win, but don’t tell her I know that…can it be our secret? When we’re done playing, I like to lie down froggy style to chew on my toy, but I don’t tear it apart, it’s just soft and nice to have in my mouth. I got to play with another dog and it was fun, but when he tried to mount me I let him know politely that it was inappropriate behavior. I’m nice like that. So, I know you’ll want to meet me. My ideal person or family will be active, have a full toy box for me, love to kiss and snuggle, and will feed me good food to help me improve my coat. So, don’t forget that everything goes well with Rye — especially you!
10/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A In-tact, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 10/06/16 Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog repeatedly turns toward the Assessor’s hand, with loose body and open mouth, mouths the hand, but does not apply pressure. Tag: 2. Follows at end of leash, body soft, played tug-of-war with the leash. Squeeze 1/2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Summary: Rye was overexcited during handling, jumping up, mouthy, grabbing the leash, and was difficult to position, but showed no aggression. PLAYGROUP: 10/05/16 Rye was initially unsure of interaction with other dogs, but over time has become more comfortable with approaching, and brief solicitations. Rye offers correction when uncomfortable. The behavior department feels that Rye may potentially be placed into a home with respectful dogs, pending slow introductions to allow Rye time to adjust and become comfortable. He arrived as a stray, so it is unknown how his behavior around dogs will translate into a home environment. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 10/3/16 During his initial medical exam Rye allowed handling and appeared friendly. ENERGY LEVEL: RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control (It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting; proper management is also advised. Force-free, reward based training is recommended.)
