09/05/2017 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/05/17 13:53 Basic Information: Rusty is a tan, male dog roughly around 6 years old. He was a lost dog previously and the owner got him from a police officer in the neighborhood about 6 months ago. He cannot keep Rusty due to allergies in the family and moving into a new place soon. He went to the vet last around 6 months ago when they got him. Socialization: Around strangers Rusty is friendly. He lived with children ages 5 and older and was usually tolerant around them, he wouldn’t play with them too much but when he did he was gentle. He is gentle yet exuberant when playing with adults. He’s respectful around other dogs; he just sniffs and doesn’t play. He is respectful around cats but doesn’t play. When he first got in the home the owner’s father accidently stepped on him and he bit the father. Behavior: During a storm or fireworks, Rusty isn’t bothered. He may growl when placing your hand in his food bowl and when you push him off the furniture. With a bone or toy he isn’t too bothered, he’ll just try and take it back. He isn’t bothered in the bath and enjoys being brushed. He’ll bark if someone unfamiliar approached you or the home. For a New Family to Know: Rusty is friendly and mellow with a low to medium activity level. He will follow you around the home and loves balls and sandals to play with. He loves to play fetch and will get the ball for hours. He sleeps in front of the owner’s door. He’s mostly house trained but may have an accident here or there in a month. He goes potty of grass, cement and wee wee pads. He knows come as a command. For exercise he enjoys slow walks on the leash and doesn’t pull. The owner’s mother walks him off the leash and says he stays close by your side. Behavior During intake: When approaching Rusty, he remained sleeping on the ground and didn’t notice or move when I scanned him for a microchip. I tried collaring him but he kept moving behind his owner. When I place the lead over him his body became very stiff. He eventually allowed for me to photograph him but was pacing back and forth of the back drop.

We feel he may be most comfortable in a home without very young children. Older, dog savvy children may be considered pending an in – depth interaction. Potential challenges: _X_Resource guarding: Rusty’s previous owner notes he growls if his food bowl is touched while he is eating. We recommend that Rusty be left alone while eating to prevent reheasal of the warning as well as to prevent escalation to a bite.
