I came in the shelter as a OWNER SUR on 06/02/2016 from NY 11234, owner surrender reason stated was NO TIME.

6/6/16 S/O: Vet check for geriatric exam. Also reported firm stool with trace of blood. BAR on presentation, nervous but tolerable of handling and exam. No reports of straining to defecate in shelter mm = pink, moist Integument = no masses or ectoparasites observed EENT = NS OU, mildly thickened pinnae but clean AU, no nasal discharge, mild dental tartar H/L = Grade II/VI Left systolic heart murmur; clear lung fields Abdomen = SNP, no masses palpable. Rectal exam within normal limits – No blood in stool observed UG = MN LN = WNL CNS = A+A A: Heart murmur (low grade) – r/o physiologic vs. pathologic – unknown significance Reported tenesmus – r/o primary GI (obstipated vs. constipation vs. neoplasia) vs. extra-GI (mild arthritis, making posturing slightly painful. 06/02/16 22:58 Rusty is a 10 year old Neutered American Pitbull Terrier. He was given to his owner as a gift and has been in their care since. He is being surrendered into our facility due to owner not having time to continue care. There are no known health injuries or concerns. Around stranger he is friendly and is gentle when he plays with adults. He has been around children from infants to older and is relaxed and playful. There is no known experience with other dogs. he has had an experience with cats and displayed aggressive behavior and chased after them. There is no known history of him biting another animal or person. When not taken out for walks he will use the bathroom indoors. If he hears loud noises he will bark. When he is left alone and items are left unattended he will destroy household items. During storms or fireworks he isn’t bothered. He is friendly when his bowl is touched and when objects or treats are being taken away. You are able to give him a bath and brush his coat; his nails haven’t been trimmed but have naturally stayed to a decent length due to his walks. You are able to hold and restrain him. When unfamiliar people approach the home he will bark when unfamiliar people approach you he isn’t bothered but friendly. Rusty is described as being friendly and playful with a very high activity level that would do best in a family home. He likes to go for walks and is great with newborns. His favorite spot is the kitchen and she likes toy that are stuffed and squeaky. He also enjoys alert barking. He is mostly indoors but also outdoors for the bathroom. He slept on his bed and at wet food Alpo at least 2-3 times a day. He is house trained and rarely had any accidents within the home. He was crate trained as a puppy but no longer does it. When left alone in the yard he is well behaved but will bark. He knows such commands as “sit” “come” “stay” “paw (high 5)” and “speak up all done best with a treat. For exercise he goes on leash walks and may pull very hard. Usually potty on the grass, cement or dirt. During intake all handling was allowed from counselor to scan (negative), collared and photographed.

Rusty came to us as an owner surrender; due to owner not having the time to care for him properly. According to the owner Rusty is gentle and playful around strangers and children. Rusty is said to be reactive towards cats and will chase after them if he is with them. It was reported if left home alone Rusty will destroy house hold items though these items were not specified. Rusty is not bother when his food, toy or treats are touched. Rusty was interested in exploring his environment when entering the behavior room. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. Rusty did have stiff and tense body language during the look, sensitivity and squeeze items. He only displayed minimal interest in the toy on this portion of the assessment. We recommend that Rusty go to a home with and experienced owner with no children at this time. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is stiff; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (needs coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw, body tense. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw, body tense. Toy: 1. Minimal interest. Dog smells, licks and mouths, then turns away. According to Rusty’s previous owner, Rusty has no previous experience with other dogs. According to Rusty’s previous owner, Rusty has no previous experience with other dogs. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Rusty has displayed stiff and uncomfortable body language toward the other dogs. He rushes towards them and immediately becomes stiff. 6/6: Rusty greets the other dog with a stiff body and chooses to have no further interaction with the other dog. 6/8: Rusty displays stiff and uncomfortable body language. He rushes toward the other dog and immediately becomes stiff. His arousal level was increasing therefore the session was ended.
