01/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rusty came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Rusty was very friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Rusty came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rusty was distracted but not fearful during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rusty was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Rusty appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Rusty greets with a low, soft body. Once he enters the pen he is mostly sexually motivated but does respond well to the handler’s corrections.
