02/21/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Rushmore is an imposing and statuesque dog, a masterpiece, well named after the famous mount…He has such gorgeous eyes that become so sweet and focused when they look at treats or a ball…And he sits so beautifully for both. Rushmore is calm in his kennel but becomes all wiggly and tail wagging when he sees a potential caretaker. He is ready when you are…He is strong and pulls on the leash, marks slightly his territory and meets properly other dogs in the street. Free in a pen, he explores, comes when called, settles for reward or none and has this magic way to look at you, like you are the most wonderful person in the world. Rushmore is nicely built but his eyes are really doing all the talking…He is really a very attractive dog. Rushmore might be a stray but he has been well cared for, is perfectly built , dressed and looks quite healthy. He does well with other dogs in playgroups, passed his behavioral evaluation with flying colors and is waiting to meet you in our adoptive quarters. Ask for handsome Rushmore, walk him with us, get to know him and take him home as your new forever best friend
02/19/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rushmore pulls a bit on the leash. He was not sociable, and was more interested in the surroundings than the handler during the assessment. Rushmore was calm and relaxed during handling. He was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Rushmore took the toy away with a soft body language. Rushmore did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog is active and focused on the Assessor and all other stimuli available. His body is soft, likely panting, likely to display high movement between attempts. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1.Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leahs with other dogs, Rushmore engages in a bit of play and becomes a bit bouncy with a young, playful female.
02/18/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Rushmore engages in bouts of gentle play with female dogs. He has made attempt to mount but responds well to correction from other dogs. Rushmore has not yet been introduced to a male dog while in our care. He arrived into the care center as a stray so in-home behaviors with dogs are unknown. The behavior depatment recommends a pre-adoption interaction for Rushmore before introducing him to resident dogs. When off leahs with other dogs, Rushmore engages in a bit of play and becomes a bit bouncy with a young, playful female. 2/19 update: Rushmore is a bit sexually motivated but responds well to correction. 2/21 update: Rushmore engages in gentle play with a playful female dog, with the intent to also mount. He ceases attempting to mount when handler interruption is used. 2/23 update: Rushmore engages in bouts of gentle play with a female dog.
