02/10/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
02/10/16 13:36 BASIC INFORMATION Rukelo is a 9 month old unlatered male Stadffordshire terrier that was given to his prior owner from his cousin. Rukelo’s owner had to surrender him for personal reasons. His owner is going through a lot in his personal life and does not want to inhibit the potential of finding someone whe could give Rukelo their all. SOCIALIZATION Rukelo lived in a home with one single male adult. Rukelo however has been around an array of different people. Rukelo has spent time with children, and adults of all genders and sizes. Rukelo is said to be affectionate and gentle with anyone that he meets. Rukelo has never lived or interacted with any cats so his behavior around them is unknown. On walks in the park Rukelo passes multiple dogs. He immediately gets aroused, tail straight in the air, he whines, and he begans to pull hard on the leash. Rukelo has never been off leash with other dogs. BEHAVIOR Rukelo is said to enjoy being bathed and having his coat brushed. His owner also trimmed his nails hiself and Rukelo would often pull his paw away but tolerate the process until it is done. Rukelo is non reactive to having treats, toys, nor food taken away from him even while he is eating. Rukelo is successfully house broken and is said to have had no accidents within the past 7 months. Rukelo has never harmed any person or animal. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Rukelo is a large puppy with a medium activity level. He goes on walks twice a day and prefers to go on concrete. Rukelo likes to play tug of war with anything. He also willl play fetch with balls and frisbees but will only bring it back when he feels like it. Inside the home Rukelo is usually relaxed and likes to sit by his owners feet. Rukelo slept wherever he felt comfortable at that time. Rukelo eats dry food of any brand twice a day. INTAKE BEHAVIOR Upon intake Rukelo was completely quiet and respectful. He allowed to be rubbed and collared by an admissions counselor. Rukelo scanned negative for a microchip.
02/14/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: What a lovely puppy! Rukelo is such a lover and still has puppy energy. As soon as we get outside and he has done his business, he jumps up to give me hugs and kisses. He seems housebroken and has apparently already lived in a house with kids. All he seems to want is someone to pet him and snuggle. Come meet Rukelo today!
02/15/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rukelo may become overstimulated when interacting and has shown a low threshold for arousal, jumping and nipping during a recent interaction. He was initially easily distracted, but after a few minutes he escalated to biting up the rope and at the sleeves and scarves of the people around him, playing tug with the clothing, and was increasingly difficult to redirect away from the biting and tugging on clothing. Based upon these behaviors, we advise that a potential adopter have some knowledge of training or experience working with similar challenges who can provide Rukelo with the guidance he needs. 2/12 SAFER: Rukelo previously lived with one adult and has been around children ofall different sizes. The owner stated Rukelo is affectionate and gentle with adults and children. The owner mentioned Rukelo is house broken and has a medium activity level. At intake it was reported Rukelo was quiet and respectful, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Rukelo came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly, playful and social towards the assessor, allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rukelo joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rukelo was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Rukelo appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play begins. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Rukelo is soft, bouncy and playful. He solicits running and chase play with playbows.
