Rugby wants…and one must deliver…Rugby does not want and one must agree with him… Indeed, Rugby has a strong personality and makes very clear what he likes or does not like to do… No hidden agenda with him and somehow, I like that but I understand that he calls for a certain type of owner and most likely should live in an adults only home…He is a powerful dog, a big puller on the leash, an invested toy and ball player. He does not guard his treasures, definitively a plus. Although a bit chunky, he does not tired up. He seems to have an unlimited amount of energy although he is not at all hyper  and is rather quiet and collected in his kennel.He does like caresses and even a hug . Rugby recognizes his friends and will be amenable with soft talks to do certain things he does not care to do, like being leashed back at the end of our time together…. He seems to like other dogs nearing our pen and although playful in playgroup with his peers, Rugby does not take NO for an answer , true to his well know MO…Rugby has been owned by the same family since the age of …six weeks. He comes with great comments but his increasing opinionatedness has become an issue for his masters, the very reason for his relinquishment into our care. Rugby is a strong dog, physically and emotionally. We all know some humans like him in our lives….They are not everyone’s cup of tea but they do have their circle of friends….I bet there is a new owner out there who can appreciate and curb Rugby’s temperament to yield a fun, loving and obedient companion. Rugby is waiting for his new master and teacher at the Manhattan Care Center.
PROFILE :
Basic Information: Rugby is a 4 year old altered American Pit Bull mix. He’s been in owner’s left since he was 6 weeks old and was a gift from a friend. Rugby appears healthy and has no health concerns. Owner surrenders Rugby due to behavior increasing in the home.
Social Life and Personality: Rugby lived with 4 adults and a 12 year old. Owner stated Rugby gets along with the adult women in the house but the male and daughter there’s distance. Rugby barks at strangers at first but becomes friendly and outgoing after he sniffs them. Rugby hasn’t played with children for the past year. He was outgoing and welcoming to children now he barks owner stated. Rugby never lived with another dog but it was mentioned that on walks he will interact with a small dogs playfully. Rugby will bark at big dogs while he’s on leash. Rugby is mostly indoors and activity level is high. Owner describes Rugby as playful, confident, excitable, and anxious.
Behavior: Rugby has bitten two people but no in the past 10 days (please look at bite history for more information) Rugby is friendly and isn’t bothered when someone touches his food bowl or takes toys away from him. His behavior is unknown when pushed of furniture but owner knows that he only go on the couch when he doesn’t want to be bothered. He isn’t bothered being disturb while sleeping. He barks when unfamiliar people approaches the house or family member.
For a New Family to Know: Rugby is trained to use the bathroom outdoors on a leash twice a day. He pulls on a leash very hard but he has to use the bathroom and will whine. He knows commands such as sit and run. His favorite activity is to play with a ball. He likes to sleep underneath the table and eat wet food twice a day called Pedigree or Kirkland. Owner stated he is well behaved when home alone and is crate trained. Owner states Rugby will do best in a single home with no children.
Intake Behavior: Upon intake Rugby was loose body, tongue out the mouth and wagging his tail in the admissions room. When attempting him to go in a cage he was nervous and tense. He back up and tried to go opposite direction. He scanned positive for a microchip and allowed all handling.

05/20: Rugby greeted the female dog politely and hopped around briefly. Rugby became aroused when the female dog ran, and he chased and growled in response.
