01/07/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
1/7/16 20:30 Basic information: Rudy a roughly 14 yr. old Beagle min Pinscher mix. The Owner got him from a friend as a gift; he has owned Rudy for over 10 yrs. The owner surrendered Rudy because he has not time to care for Rudy. Rudy has no health problems and has not been taken to a vet in over a year. Socialization: Around strangers Rudy is very fearful. Rudy has not lived with children and does not like to be around them. Rudy has lived with two cats, Rudy was relaxed around them. He does not like large dogs and will often lung and bark at them if they get to close. Rudy has never bitten anyone. Behavior: The owner stats that he has never moved his food or treats while he is eating, taken his toys away or disturbed him while sleeping so he has no idea how Rudy would react. Rudy does not like to be brushed and given bathes and has never had his nails trimmed. When an unfamiliar person or animal approaches a family member or his home he barks and lunges at them if they get to close. The owner does not know how Rudy is around loud noises such as storms or fireworks. For a new family to know: The owner describes Rudy as shy and fearful with a medium activity level. His favorite activity is to walk with his owner. In the home Rudy tends to follow the owner around the house and is kept mainly indoors. Rudy sleeps in the floor of the bedroom on a dog bed. Rudy was fed various dry and wet dog foods two times a day. He is house trained and has rarely had accidents in the home (only when walk is missed), when outside he goes to the bathroom on or around trees and grass. Rudy does not know any commands. For exercise Rudy is used to brisk walks on the leash and three times a day and does not pull on the leash. Behavior during intake: Rudy was very tense with stiff body, when approached by staff Rudy would try to retreat from the staff member but allowed slow approach, owner was able to assist us, scanned (-), collared and placing in dog kennel.
01/09/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Resting in his kennel for most of the day, when Rudy sat up and looked out I knew he’d welcome a walk. Shy, but stepping out gently Rudy motors along by my side spryly. I’d never guess this little fellow is 14 years old! We’re told he’s fearful with people, isn’t comfortable around children and large dogs, but lived well with two cats. Like many small dogs, Rudy is a nervous little fellow that needs to do things on his own timetable and his own terms. We had a nice walk, we chatted, he posed for some pictures and then hopped right back into his kennel when it was time. Having lived with his people for over 10 years this is a huge change for him and he’s doing the best he can. We’re rooting for him!
