SAFE 11/18/17

Ruby

Hello, my name is Ruby. My animal id is #10689. I am a female tan dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 3 years 1 weeks old.

I came into the shelter as a stray on 24-Oct-2017.

Ruby is at risk due to being diagnosed with Canine Upper Respiratory Disease Complex and will likely require home rest and a series of antibiotics for up to 14 days. This is a contagious illness to other dogs.

[DVM Intake] DVM Intake Exam Estimated age: approx. 3-4 years Microchip noted on Intake? No History : Presents as stray. Friendly- allows all handling. Subjective: Evidence of Cruelty seen – No Evidence of Trauma seen – No Objective P = 90 R = Pant BCS 5/9 EENT: Eyes clear, Heavy yellow / green exudate with stenotic canals and erythematous pinnas AS, Mild yellow exudate AD, no nasal or ocular discharge noted Oral Exam: Mild tartar, Adult dentition, MM pink and moist PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Intact female- enlarged mammary glands, no OVH scar noted / palpated MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Assessment: Otitis externa Prognosis: Excellent Plan: Clean AU and apply Claro SURGERY: Okay for surgery

[Progress Exam Template] S: Person noted blood in cage. BARH. S/O) BARH. MM pk. EENT: Very slight MPOD and scleral/ conj hyperemia OU. Mild SND. Oral Exam: Oral – no bleeding, NSF. H/L: No cough elicited on tracheal palpation. Sneezed 1x though. Abd: soft. MSI:No wounds or bleeding. UG: Female – distended vulva, possible blood tinge, prominent mammary glands. A) Suspect in heat. Possibly early CIRDC vs allergies p) Recheck VC for CIRDC tomorrow. Is the Initial Medical Status being Changed? No 0587

Monitor CIRDC S/O: No c/s/v/d. BAR and barking in the cage. Good appetite. No d/c. EENT: No nasal or ocular d/c L: No c/s A: In heat Otitis externa P: CTM while at BACC Excellent prognosis

Recheck left ear, Claro applied 10/24 S/O: BAR, barking, attention seeking, during rounds; few hours later when room was quieter, Ruby was QAR, resting in bed EENT: Eyes clear, no ocular discharge, mild mucoid nasal discharge, left pinnae dry and flaky, mild to moderate otitis externa, no active discharge HL: No coughing or sneezing, normal RR/RE A: Otitis resolving well, signs of chronic otitis; CIRDC, early/mild P: Rec doxycycline 350mg PO q24 x 14 days. Excellent prognosis

During intake Ruby allowed the counselor to put a collar on leash her take her picture and pet her with no problems.

Basic Information:: Ruby looks to be a 2 year old female large tan and white dog who was found in a park and brought to the ACC as a stray.

How is this dog around strangers?: : When arriving at the center Ruby had a loose body and was wagging her tail. She allowed the staff at the ACC to pet her and walk her with no problems. Ruby was very friendly and outgoing with the staff.

How is this dog around children?: Ruby was brought to the center by a 14 year old boy when around him Ruby was relaxed and affectionate.

How is this dog around other dogs?: Unknown information

How is this dog around cats?: Unknown information

Look:: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.

Sensitivity:: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, and tail is in neutral position with a relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.

Tag:: 1. Dog follows at the end of the leash, body soft.

Paw squeeze 1:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.

Paw squeeze 2:: 1. Dog gently pulls back his/her paw.

Toy:: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. Dog does not place his/her body between you and the toy.

Summary:: Ruby came into the room calm and with a wagging tail, Ruby was friendly and social towards the handlers.

Summary (1):: Ruby was brought in as a stray so her past behavior with other dogs is unknown. 10/25: When off leash at the Care Center, Ruby is uncomfortable and begin to bark in the direction of the greeter. The novel male dog leash is held, allowing Ruby to approach him at her when she is comfortable. She quickly moves pass him and explores the pens, keeping to herself. Further into her session, she approaches the other dog, exchanging sniffs, before moving away again. 10/30: Ruby interacts with two calm male dogs. She is tolerant of a pushy puppy and offers a few bounces when he solicits her attention.
