09/06/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Roxy is being surrendered to our care centers as her owner is unable to care for her any longer. She previously lived with six adults. The owner stated when strangers come over Roxy barks but slowly warms up to new people after a few hours. The owner mentioned Roxy lived with a male dog and they were playful and gentle around each other. It was reported by the owner Roxy growls when strangers touch her food bowl while eating and while removing toys from her mouth. The owner describes playful, excitable, and affectionate and she is also house trained. At intake it was reported Roxy was excitable and allowed all handling. During SAFER Roxy came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, she was friendly and social towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Roxy was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Roxy was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns stated from the previous owner, the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experienced adopter in an adult only home, we also recommend no other dogs in the household. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: When off leash at the care center, Roxy greets with a tense body, low growls, while showing her flank. She is muzzle before being allowed to directly interact with the greeter. She immediately growls, hard barks and lunges at the gate before it is opened. The session is ended afterwards. 9/7 update: Roxy has exhibited extreme dog reactivity in the shelter both on leash and in playgroup (see GROUPBEHAVIOR entries). Due to safety concerns for staff and other dogs in the shelter, the Behavior Department recommends that placement be sought as soon as possible.
09/04/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
According to Roxy’s previous owner, Roxy previously lived with a male dog. They lounged around the house and enjoyed each other’s company. Roxy has shown concerning behaviors when greeting other dogs. She growls, barks and lunges at other dogs and requires a muzzle. Due to these behaviors, the Behavior Department recommends that Roxy be placed in a home with no other dogs. 9/04: When off leash at the care center, Roxy greets with a tense body, low growls, while showing her flank. She is muzzle before being allowed to directly interact with the greeter. She immediately growls, hard barks and lunges at the gate before it is opened. The session is ended afterwards. 9/7: Due to Roxy’s history, a muzzle is placed on her before meeting the other dog. As soon as she sees the greeter dog, she begins barking and lunging towards the male dog. Once she is close enough, she jumps on his back. The session is ended.
