06/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Roxy previously lived with adults and children ages 6 and 9 years old. The owner stated Roxy is respectful and playful with children, strangers and adults. The owner describes Roxy as friendly and affectionate. The owner mentioned Roxy is house trained, crate trained, has a high activity level and we behaved when home alone. It was reported by the owner Roxy was not socialized with other dogs. According to the owner Roxy has a previous redirecting bite history. Where she bit him on his hand last week when he grabbed her collar to stop her from running out of the front door but didn’t break skin and let go right away. The second incident was 2 months ago, where Roxy was playing with the owner’s mother and bit her hand also; she did break skin but didn’t need stitches. At intake it was reported Roxy was excited and wiggly, she allowed all handling. During SAFER Roxy came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, she was friendly and social towards the assessor. She allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Roxy joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Roxy was easy to handle when engaged with the item. During dog to dog interaction Roxy was muzzled before she was allowed off leash with the helper dog. Once let into the pen, she rushed the gate and froze. We did allow her to enter the pen and she did exchange a brief sniff greet but that turned into a muzzle punch, a series of low growls and then she jumped onto the helper dog’s shoulders.Due to some concerns with Roxy redirecting and not being socialized with other animals, the behavior department feels she can be suitable for an experience adopter with no children and we recommend being the only pet in the household. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play ends. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy: 1. No interest.
06/20/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Roxy’s previous owner reported that Roxy has never interacted with other dogs because she is reactive towards them- barking and lunging. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Roxy has been muzzled as she displays concerning behaviors such as rushing the gate, growling and freezes. Once she is allowed into the pen, she growls and rushes toward the greeter dog. Due to these behaviors, The Behavior Department recommends that Roxy not be placed in a home with other dogs at this time. 6/20: Due to Roxy’s reported reactivity and redirecting bite history, we muzzled her before she was allowed off leash with the helper dog. Once let into the pen, she rushed the gate and froze. We did allow her to enter the pen and she did exchange a brief sniff greet but that turned into a muzzle punch, a series of low growls and then she jumped onto the helper dog’s shoulders. The interaction was ended. 6/24: Roxy was muzzled before being allowed in to pen. When meeting the greeter dog through the gate, Roxy began to muzzle punch the gate and low growl. Once in the pen, Roxy rushed toward the greeter dog, placing her body under his and low growling. The session was ended.
