08/08/16 13:06 Roxxie is 9 months old and her last visit to the vet was 3 months ago. Aroud strangers she is nice and happy and friendly. She will bark at people that approach the house. She is very good with kids, she lives in a home with two kids ages 4 and 6, She is gentle and playful. She plays exuberently and and gently. Roxxie does not do well with other dogs, she will be very scared of dogs but there are some moments when she lunges at other dogs. Roxxie lived with two other cats in the house. She interacts well with the cats, she is gentle with her interactions and does not get overly rough with them. Roxxie never destroys household items and is comepletely house trained so she dos not have accidents in the house. Roxxie does not mind if you take her toys or treats away and she will not do anything if you touch or take her food, she might just be hoping you are giving her more food. She really likes to be given a bath but does not like if you try to clip her nails and will try hard to escape from you. She barks when unfamliar people approach her home. Roxxie has a very high activity level at home and she will follow her owner around the house often. She sleeps wherever she would like and has access to the whole house. When she is left alone she is very wel behaved and can be trusted around kids without supervision. On walks she pulls very hard and is not walked off leash and is advised that it is not a good idea to walk off leash although unsure what she will do if she is walked off leash. Roxxie knows “Sit” , “Sienta te”, “Ven, Ven Aqui”, “Come”, “Para”, “Stop” and “No”. She eats wet and dry Beneful three times a day. Roxxie entered the shelter with a loose body and tail wagging. She sniffed around the shelter during intake, when councilor approached her for scanning Roxxie backs up quickly and and does not appraoch when hand is offered for scent. Roxxie did not respond well to hands over her head. Owner had to scan and collar.
08/13/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Cutesie Roxxie is waiting patiently in her kennel and is leashed at once. What an adorable dumpling, an unblended mix of chocolate and latte fur covering a compact body on short legs. Roxxie is a good walker and a “sniffer”. She is wondering where she is and must find out. She is a perfect “sitter” and accepts without complaint a scarf around her neck. Girls always need accessories to look their prettiest on the pictures! She is gentle and friendly, accepts caresses and settles comfortably against my body, on the sidewalk. Many dogs are met, big and small. Roxxie is perfectly civil with them. Her owner, though, says that she “does not do well with other dogs, being scared of them and lunging at some (maybe the threatening ones?)”. In the one playgroup Roxxie experienced here at the care center, she engaged in vocal and pushy play. Roxxie belonged to the same family since the tender age of 3 months. She was excellent and playful with the very young kids of the house (and trusted with them without supervision…that says a lot about Roxxie, of course but always rather to avoid), gentle with the cats, very playful, loving, house trained and well behaved when left alone. Quite good recommendations. In a nutshell, Roxxie is a very medium sized gorgeous nugget, friendly, great with kids and cats but who needs a little bit of socialization with other pooches. In experienced hands, she could become the perfect pet everyone would love to own and cherish. Roxxie is at the Manhattan Care Center.
08/11/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Roxxie pulls a bit on the leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. Roxxie was calm and relaxed during handling. She followed the assessor at the end of the leash with a calm and relaxed body language when playing tag. Roxxie took the toy away but had soft body language. Roxxie was surrender to us. According to her previous owner she is very good with kids, she lives in a home with two kid’s ages 4 and 6, She is gentle and playful. She plays exuberantly and gently. Roxxie does not do well with other dogs, she will be very scared of dogs but there are some moments when she lunges at other dogs. Roxxie lived with two other cats in the house. She interacts well with the cats; she is gentle with her interactions and does not get overly rough with them. Roxxie does not mind if you take her toys or treats away and she will not do anything if you touch or take her food. The behavior department feels that she can go to an experienced home; we also believe Roxie would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a new home until her behavior around dogs can be followed up on outside the care center. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-to-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Roxxie engages in a bit of vocal, pushy play, remaining assertive throughout the interaction. After a short period of time, she then begns to offer correction when the male greeter begins to solicit again. Roxxie’s previous owner cites that she ‘does not like’ other dogs, and ‘lunges at them’. The behavior team feels Roxxie would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a new home until her behavior around dogs can be followed up on outside the care center.
