05/22/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes, “As Rosie just came in today, it seems she may need a little more time to become comfortable in her new surroundings. She panted heavily throughout our walk (it wasn’t hot out) and pulled quite a bit. She seemed anxious. She is, however, house trained and responds very well to being petted. This cutie shows real potential!” Another volunteer writes: Little Rosie seems to be equipped with a snoozing device she makes use of when she is a little stressed. And of course, when one owns a delicate soul, there are many reasons to be on the edge in an unfamiliar environment. Indeed, Rosie was a well cared pet just yesterday. She is a very pretty gal, very girly, perfectly dressed and groomed and quite healthy looking. She must be quit bewildered not to see her loved ones, and the walls she was roaming in. Rosie finds comfort, though, in her caretakers arms. She is a social and friendly girl who likes to be petted, hugged and kissed, and she has plenty to give in return. She loves treats, will sit for them and displays very good…table manners. Rosie might be her given name, but it suits her well. She owns indeed the cutest face and is a lovely flower who would make a new owner happy to have Rosie in her or his home. Rosie is at the Manhattan Care Center, dreaming to be part of the “bouquet of love” bringing happiness to your daily life. A volunteer writes (as told by Rosie): Hi! I’m Rosie, the small and friendly pit bull. Throwing tennis balls and playing fetch really isn’t my thing. But i’ll tell you what I do love – getting my head scratched! I’m very relaxed and well behaved, although sometimes I can’t help jumping on my human friends and licking them. I’m the kind of dog that doesn’t need too much attention and I’m seemingly house trained as well.
05/21/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rosie pulls a bit on the leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, low wag. She was calm and relaxed during handling. Rosie was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. She took the toy away but had soft body language. Rosie did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that she can go to an Average home. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, and her tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have long lip or lip lick. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: Rosie continues to display anxious behavior, though slightly less. She corrects when sniffed from behind.
05/18/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Rosie has mostly displayed anxious behavior during off leash interaction, only recently displaying interest in play. She arrived as a stray, so in home behavior is unknown. The behavior department recommends allowing Rosie time to decompress in a home before following up on her behavior around dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Rosie is anxious, panicked, begins to frantically bark when approached from behind. 5/19 update: Rosie continues to display anxious behavior, though slightly less. She corrects when sniffed from behind. 5/24 update: Rosie engages in pushy play with a female dog.
