03/03/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/03/16 12:08Hrs Rose has been cared for by her owner since she was ten days old. She is described as energetic, playful and protective. She has lived with an 8 year old child. She plays gently with the child allowing the child to pet her all over. When she notices other dogs outside she will lunge towards them while barking. Her owner stated that she has never interacted with another dog. She likes to bark at cats as well. BEHAVIOR Rose is very energetic and likes to jump up and down on everyone in the home. Her owner stated she isn’t aware of how strong she is. Rose will allow her owner to approach her while she is eating and to remove food from her mouth. Rose will growl at every other family member that attempts to approach her while she is eating. When she is left alone in the home, Rose will bark until she is tired. When Rose hears a sound or someone approaching the door, she will begin to bark. When visitors enter the home, Rose will begin to bark and lunge after them. When a stranger would approach her owner while she is being walked, she would lunge after them while barking. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Rose enjoys playing with hard rubber toys and large rawhide bones. Rose understands the command “calm down.” Rose likes to dance on her hind legs when she hears Salsa and Merengue music. She is walked on leash at 5am and 7pm. She is allowed off leash to run around inside of the enclosed courtyard for about 20 minutes every day. Rose is accustomed to eating 2x a day. She eats homemade bowls of chicken or beef soup mixed with Pedigree dry dog food. She sleeps in the living room at night. DURING INTAKE Rose entered the Admissions Office while panting and pulling on her leash. She allowed the Admissions Counselor to approach her while she was standing next to her owner and offer her treats. She accepted the treat. Rose would jump into her owner’s lap continuously during the intake. After a short time the Admissions Counselor approached her owner while she was sitting in his lap and she immediately began to bark and lunge after the Counselor. She was not collared, scanned for a microchip or photographed.
WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Would a rose by any other name be as sweet? You betcha!Miss Rose is anxious in her kennel, thrilled to be out for a walk to make new friends. She’s understandably anxious as she had been with her family since she was 10 days old, and now she’s not. This is a whole new scary world that she’s left to conquer on her own. They tell us she’s energetic, lived with a young child and played gently with her.And how’s this for a fun fact: she likes to dance on her hind legs when she hears Salsa or Merengue music. How cute is that?!Rose hasn’t had a lot of experience outside of her immediate family, although she’s been beautifully taken care of.Her coat is shiny, her weight ample, and she’s friendly but anxious. I’m happy to count Rose among my new friends, and do note the need for some training. She likes to jump on new people, and her former family tells us that when she’s with people she knows she will bark at new people. Rose needs to learn that the world is populated with friendly people, that she can meet new people appropriately and the world is there for her to feel safe.It will take a patient person with the skills to teach Rose how to be the best she can be.
03/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rose pulls a bit on leash. She was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body, wagging tail. She was overexcited during handling, jumping up, and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Rose did a lot of jumping up, body checking during tag interaction. She was not interested in toys. Rose was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Rose is very energetic and likes to jump up and down on everyone in the home. Her owner stated she isn’t aware of how strong she is. Rose will allow her owner to approach her while she is eating and to remove food from her mouth. Rose will growl at every other family member that attempts to approach her while she is eating. She has lived with an 8 year old child. She plays gently with the child allowing the child to pet her all over. When she notices other dogs outside she will lunge towards them while barking. Her owner stated that she has never interacted with another dog. When visitors enter the home, Rose will begin to bark and lunge after them. When a stranger would approach her owner while she is being walked, she would lunge after them while barking”. Because of Rosita owner surrender profile the behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced no children adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. 03/06/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPNOCHILD
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Rose solicits and engages in rough play with the helper dog. She becomes a bit vocal during play, and is forward when soliciting. Rose’s previous owner cites that “when she notices other dogs outside she will lunge towards them while barking. Her owner stated that she has never interacted with another dog”. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction before placement with a resident dog.
