ROSCOE – 8098 (ALT ID – A1126715
Hello, my name is Roscoe. My animal id is #8098. I am a male brown dog at the Dog Isolation Room. The shelter thinks i am about 6 years 1 weeks old.
Let’s get to know each other a bit more…
Behavior determination: Experience (no young children under 5) A volunteer writes: I asked staff “Which dog is a great dog to walk today?” The answer was quick.Roscoe. I understand why. He is combination of sweetheart, playful, calm, silly and mischievous four legged companion so pleasant and fun to spend time with. He is a tiny little lad dressed for the season in pumpkin color. Roscoe pulls a little on the leash and has to inspect every nooks and cranies of his new territory. He marks a little along the way and is civil to the big and small dogs met. Roscoe is a great “sitter” and not at all grabby for treats. He runs and catches tennis balls, looking so excited doing so. He seems a little tense at times and vocal with rope toys. Still toward the end of our encounter, he came to sit then lay by my side for caresses. He was quite relaxed and content. Roscoe, although not hyper, does not belong to a kennel. He will toy with the leash to let you know that he wants to stay out. Roscoe is the perfect apartment size pet, a little orange nugget who needs a quiet environment and an experienced owner who will give him a chance to feel safe, chill out and develop all the qualities he already has on board. Come and meet Roscoe soon at the Manhattan Care Center.

ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Roscoe so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is an enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below) Behavior Asilomar TM – Treatable-Manageable Recommendations: No young children (under 5) Recommendations comments: _X_No young children (under 5): Due to sensitivity seen on his assessment when his paws were touched, we recommend a home without young children. Potential challenges: Handling/touch sensitivity Potential challenges comments: _X_Handling/touch sensitivity: Roscoe stiffened and head flipped when his paw was handled, showing discomfort with touch in certain areas. It is important to avoid touching Roscoe’s paws at this time. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Roscoe to be more comfortable with this.
