03/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Update: 3/2/16 Since Rosco’s last behavior assessment he has displayed some concerning behaviors in the shelter that preclude placement in adoptions. Unfortunately, Rosco seems to be deteriorating in the shelter environment and has had some concerning interactions with staff. Rosco was being weighed in medical when he began mouth one of the staff members, mouthing her arm with increasing pressure. He was able to grab onto her clothes and pull very strongly but did not bite the staff member. He required assistance to distract from the behavior. Due to this behavior in conjunction with behavior observed while in the kennel we feel that it is in Rosco’s best interest to be placed with a New Hope partner at this time. SAFER: 2/26/16 Rosco came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Rosco was calm and allowed all handling. During SAFER Rosco came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rosco follows the handler but a bit distracted during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rosco was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Rosco appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns on this aggression assessment. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft but a bit distracted. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Rosco greets with a neutral body and exchanges sniffs. He does not solicit or engage in play but is very distracted by the scents in the yard so he spends the majority of time exploring.
