12/15/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Oh Ronda! What a sweet, cuddly, gentle girl. I would bring her home myself if I could. Ronda is an absolute cuddle queen–on our walks, every time I bend down even for a second, she immediately puts her head on my lap and snuggles up. She far prefers affection to running around, and will check in with me all the time while we’re walking. Ronda is great on the leash, and a little bit anxious about loud noises on the street. Not surprisingly, this little mama loves giving kisses. If you’re looking for a cuddle buddy, come see Ronda at the Brooklyn ACC today!
12/13/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: N/A Unaltered, Stray SAFER ASSESSMENT: 12/13/16 Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. Her ears are back, her tail is down, and she has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: Skipped due to non weight bearing front leg. Flank Squeeze 1&2:1. Dog does not respond at all. Toy: 1. Dog settles down close to chew, will relinquish toy to you. Summary: Ronda was friendly and social towards the assessor, she displayed no behavioral concerns. PLAYGROUP: Ronda came into the Care Center as a stray so her previous behavior around other dogs is unknown. When off leash with a novel male dog, Ronda is initially stiff but tolerates being greeted. She then wanders in the pen. When being introduced to a calm female dog, Ronda slowly approaches her to greet. She is nervous when the other female greets her, displaying a tense face and lip licking. When the other female walks away, Ronda slowly moves towards her and mounts her. She responds well to handler interruptions and is able to explore the pen. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 12/13/16 During her medical examination, Ronda was friendly, attention seeking and allowed all handling. IN SHELTER BEHAVIOR: 1/8/17 Ronda is rapidly deteriorating behaviorally in the Care Center. Over the last week or so since she arrived 12/10/16, Ronda has displayed several stereotypical behaviors in her kennel such as spinning, tail chasing and bouncing off her kennel walls. She is also regularly showing other behaviors that suggest she is extremely stressed- heavy panting and salivating. At this time, The Behavior Department does not feel that she is a suitable candidate for the adoptions room any longer due to the deleterious affect it is having on her welfare and recommend that placement be sought as soon as possible. RECOMMENDATIONS: Average (Suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience) _x_Recommend no dog parks (Ronda is initially uncomfortable when greeting novel dogs therefore we feel that she may not be amenable to visiting dog parks where she will encounter them in an uncontrolled environment).
12/11/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Ronda came into the Care Center as a stray so her previous behavior around other dogs is unknown. 12/11: When off leash with a novel male dog, Ronda is initially stiff but tolerates being greeted. She then wanders in the pen. 12/12: Ronda cautiously greeted another female dog with a tucked tail and slow pace. Her paws appeared to be causing her pain- limping and lifting them- therefore we did not have her outside in the rain for a long period of time. 12/22: When being introduced to a calm female dog, Ronda slowly approaches her to greet. She is nervous when the other female greets her, displaying a tense face and lip licking. When the other female walks away, Ronda slowly moves towards her and mounts her. She responds well to handler interruptions and is able to explore the pen. 1/7: Ronda greets a calm female dog and displays assertive behavior, targeting and follwing her around the pen. She is interrupted by the handler and then wanders around the pen.
