KNOWN HISTORY: Full Profile 9/13/17 Unaltered male, Owner(length of time in previous home 1 year +) Previously lived with: Two adults Behavior toward strangers: Friendly Behavior toward children: Unknown Behavior toward dogs: Unknown Behavior toward cats: Unknown Resource guarding: Yes, owner reports Roger will guard his possessions (blankets, toys) etc… Bite history: Yes Housetrained: Yes Energy level/descriptors: Owner reports Rogers as being active, and playful. SAFER ASSESSMENT: 9/22/17 Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, body neutral. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, body tense, mouth closed. Tag 2. Dog follows at the end of the leash, cautious and hesitant, turns toward assessor’s hand on last pass. Squeeze 1/ 2: 2 Dog pulls back paw. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. Summary: Roger was nervous; though he did approach the assessor for gentle petting, at times lightly jump up to solicit attention. After a few moments Roger would sniff around, and return for treats. PLAYGROUP: Roger’s previous owner did not disclose his behavior around other dogs. When off leash at the Care Center, Roger is sexually motivated. He attempts to mount multiple dogs in a group of small male and female dogs, ignoring corrections and warnings. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 9/14/17 During the initial examination Roger was anxious, but was tolerant.

ENERGY LEVEL: His previous owner describes Roger as a playful, friendly dog. Roger displayed low-medium energy and movement throughout assessment. We recommend a slow approach to give Roger time to acclimate to his new environment. RECOMMENDATIONS: NHO _X_No children (under 13)- Roger has shown some restraint in the care center; though he has shown appropriate warning signals Roger has not escalated to a growl/bite. However, Roger has shown a willingness to bite when fearful, and uncomfortable with handling. Due to Rogers bite history, we recommend a home without children. _X_Place with a New Hope partner- Due to the warning and distance-increasing behaviors shown in the care center, as well as Roger’s multiple bite history, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who can provide force free behavior modification to address the biting and underlying anxiety. Potential challenges: _X_Resource Guarding-Potential possession guarding behavior was noted in the previous home as Roger was observed to bite when attempting to remove items in, and around the home, and at times has bitten the hand attempting to remove them. For this reason, we advise against ever removing items from Roger’s possession without safely trading for an item or greater or equal value. Guidance from a professional trainer/behaviorist is highly recommended to aid in safely managing/modifying this behavior in a new home environment. _X_Multiple-bite history/risk of future aggression- Roger has a multiple bite history and escalates quickly to snapping and biting, so this is an established behavior that he offers when someone touches things he perceives as high value. We recommend teaching the cues ‘drop’ or ‘leave it’ as well as trade up games.
