RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope _X_No children (under 13) – Due to how uncomfortable Rocky is with touch and novel stimuli, we feel that an adult-only home would be most beneficial at this time. _X_Place with a New Hope partner – Due to all noted concerns displayed in a home environment, as well as allowing only minimal handling since intake, we recommend placement with a New Hope partner who is able to provide an experienced adult-only foster home. A period of decompression is recommended to allow Rocky to acclimate comfortably to his new environment. It is important to make sure Rocky stays under threshold and is not pushed to escalate further to a bite. Potential challenges: _X_Resource guarding – Previous owner reports Rocky will growl and snap if any food/toys/treats are touched. We recommend that Rocky be left alone while eating to prevent rehearsal of the warning as well as to prevent escalation. We advise only quick treats that last one or two bites as opposed to longer lasting chews to decrease any possessiveness. _X_Handling/touch sensitivity – Rocky has growled and snapped when handled. It is important to be cautious when touching Rocky as we do not know where he has sensitivities. Positive reinforcement, reward based training should be used to pair touch with good things such as food rewards in order to teach Rocky to be more comfortable with this. Rocky should never be forced to submit to handling or petting when he is uncomfortable.
