08/01/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Rocky is a lounger: the type of dog that takes nearly any opportunity to lie at your feet, gazing up at you lovingly. And who doesn’t want an adoring best friend that will chill by your side watching TV, admiring you while you cook, or sleeping snuggly at your feet? He is the ideal companion. When he isn’t relaxing, he walks nicely on the leash, every few steps looking up at you to check in with his soft brown eyes, seems impeccably housetrained, doesn’t guard his food or toys, and has lived with children ages one and up. In fact, the kids would even call to him and he would come eagerly, following them around. He is friendly towards dogs and strangers, too. Rocky will engage you in a game of tug or fetch, but his real passion is sunbathing in the backyard or loafing in the living room with the family. Rocky’s lifestyle is anything but high maintenance, and he’s at the Brooklyn Care Center looking for someone who can appreciate his desire to unwind and take it easy. Ask to meet him today!

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rocky previously lived with adults and children ages 1 year old and up. The owner stated Rocky is friendly and playful towards strangers, adults and children. The owner mentioned when Rocky noticed cats and squirrels he barks and tries to chase them. It was reported Rocky is house trained and the family describes Rocky as affectionate, gentle and mellow. At intake it was reported Rocky was very friendly and allowed all handling. During SAFER Rocky came into the assessment room loose and wiggly with his tail wagging, he was friendly and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rocky was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rocky was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Rocky appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft, soft and loose body, open mouth. Tag: 1. Rocky’s previous owner reported that he has never lived with another dog but does pull towards them for a sniff when on leash. When off leash with other dogs at the Care Center, Rocky initially was sexually motivated but responded well to handler interruptions. The Behavior Department recommends that Rocky be placed in a home with a dog that matches his calm energy level. 7/24: Rocky greets the other dog with a soft body. He does not solicit nor engage in play but becomes mildly sexually motivated. He does respond well to interruptions by the handlers. 7/25: Rocky greets with a soft body and then mostly wanders the yard.
