A volunteer writes: The little bit of time it takes Rocky to warm up is a small price to pay for his company…he is so, so sweet. So sweet that I keep expecting him to caramelize during this summer heat wave! He was with his family since he was a puppy, so it’s no surprise that he’s can be a little nervous and shy. He is quiet as a mouse in his cage, walks perfectly on leash, and seems very housebroken. We’re told he has a high activity level, doesn’t have any guarding issues, loves to play with balls, and followed his people around the house. But he did become uncomfortable with the child in the home, and also when things got loud during a sports broadcast, so he might prefer a calm, quiet environment. He lived with a small dog and “they loved each other” — I don’t even need to know the other dog to say this was probably the cutest duo in the five boroughs! When I first met Rocky, he was unsure, but seemed comforted by petting, but after spending more time with him he has proven to be very affectionate. He is waggy when I approach his cage, leans all of his weight against me, sometimes does an adorable lying-under-the-bench-placing-
A volunteer writes: When I first met Rocky, he has just finished chewing a rawhide and his face was just about covered in rawhide crumbs (more like rawhide goo, to be honest). I think he devoured that thing in about a minute– Rocky loves his snacks! Rocky loves playing fetch almost as much, and seems to be housetrained. In his former home, Rocky lived with a small dog who he got along very well with, but here at the care center he’s been a little more ambivalent about other dogs. When he’s not playing or eating, Rocky is happy to just relax with his head in my lap and get some nice back scratches. Rocky is a sweet and special boy who is looking for an adopter who has experience with pups who can sometimes be a bit anxious or get startled easily– Rocky doesn’t like being surprised. For this reason, we would also like him to be adopted into a home without children. Rocky would love a quiet place to relax, but still get to play and run and gives lots of kisses. Please come and see this special boy today!
A staff member writes : ROCKY THE ROCK STAR !! BEHAVIOR
Rocky previously lived with adults and a 5 year old child. The owner stated Rocky is friendly with strangers and adults, he was also relaxed and playful with the child in the home until 2 days ago. The owner Mentioned Rocky growled at the child for no reason. The owner also stated Rocky lived with a small dog and they loved each other. The owner describes Rocky as friendly, affectionate and playful. It was reported by the owner Rocky is house trained with a high activity level. According to the owner Rocky did bite someone over a month ago, but it was because the person screamed out of joy while watching a sporting event and startled the dog. Rocky bit on the bottom of the leg and quickly let go, he did not break skin.
At intake it was reported Rocky was calm and allowed all handling. During SAFER Rocky came into the assessment room shy and fearful, he was social towards the assessor with a slow approach. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rocky was fearful with his body low during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rocky was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns sated from the previous owner Rocky growled at the 5 year in the house, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for and experience adopter with no children.
Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is tense and fearful; his tail is low and not moving. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is between his legs, body tense with his mouth closed.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 3. Dog closes mouth, becomes tense.
Flank squeeze 1: Dog does not respond at all.
Flank squeeze 2: Dog does not respond at all.
Toy: 1. No interest.
