03/13/16 10:16 Basic Information: Rocky is a two year old brown brindle and white male American Pitbull terrier. He was surrendered by his owner due to owner moving into a facility that does not accept Pitbulls. He was with his owner since he was a puppy and is described as playful, affectionate and excitable. Socialization: Rocky has lived with two adults and two yorkies. Around strangers he is described as timid and owner stated he takes a few minutes to warm up. He engages in exuberant play with adults. Around children he is described as relaxed and very tolerant. Owner states Rocky loves children and will cuddle with her children. He will lick and engage in gentle play. He likved with two small breed dogs yorkies and is described as relaxed and protective of the other dogs in the home. He was gentle with the dogs and affectionate towards them. Rocky is aggressive around cats and owner stated he will bark lunge and chase the cat. Behavior: Rocky is not bothered when his food is touched while eating or when a treat or toys is taken away. He enjoys baths and owner stated he loves water. Owner did not brush him or trim his nails. When a stranger approaches his home he will bark and continue to bark until owner calms him down. After some time he will greet the visitor with a loose body. For a new family to know: Rocky is bilingual and knows the commands sit, come, and sleeptime in english and spanish. He likes to play with balls and plastic bottles and has a medium activity level. He has been kept mostly indoors and lived in a home with a backyard. Owner stated he loves to play in the yard and is well behaved when left alone. He is used to slow leashed walks three times a day and owner stated he will pull very hard while on leash. He eats dry food Purina brand and chicken, owner stated he must eat the chicken before his dry food. Rocky is used to eating right before bed and sleeps in his crate. Owner stated he will do well in the crate and will rarely cry or whine. Upon intake Rocky was calm and had a loose body, he allowed all handling. Counselor was able to collar, scan (negative) and photograph.

Rocky previously lived with two adults and two yorkies. The owner stated Rocky is timid around strangers but will warm up to them, when around children Rocky is relaxed, tolerant, gentle and loves to lick and cuddle with the children. The owner mentioned with the 2 yorkies Rocky is relaxed, affectionate and protective of them. It was reported by the owner Rocky is reactive around cats he will bark, lunge and chase them. The owner stated Rocky has a medium activity level, does well when home alone and also does well in his crate. At intake it was reported Rocky had loose body posture, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Rocky came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was friendly and social towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rocky was relaxed during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rocky was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Rocky appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an adopter with an average amount of experience; however due to Rocky’s history with cats we caution against a home with cats. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Rocky does not approach the gate to greet but paces continually around the pen. The helper dog is allowed into the pen but kept on leash in order to allow Rocky the opportunity to approach her if he wanted to. He continues to avoid any contact or greet.

When off leash with other dogs, Rocky does not approach the gate to greet but paces continually around the pen. The helper dog is allowed into the pen but kept on leash in order to allow Rocky the opportunity to approach her if he wanted to. He continues to avoid any contact or greet. 3/23 update: Rocky met two different females todya. With one he was very pushy and intense, due to sexual motivation. With another female, he was much softer. He kept his distance after greeting and did not interact much at all.
