Basic Information:
Rocky is a 3 year old neutered male Pointer/Labrador Retriever mix that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has had Rocky for 3 months but had to surrender due to the animal being too hyper and destructive in the household.
Socialization:
According to the owner, around strangers Rocky is very friendly and wants to jump on anyone who passed by and give them kisses. Owner had 2 children ages 5 & 9 in the home & stated that Rocky was always relaxed and playful with both children. Owner also had another dog in the home that is a spayed female Pitbull & stated that they both loved to play together. He has never bit another animal or person while in the care of the owner.
Behavior:
Rocky is not bothered by loud noises, having his food, treats or toys taken away, being pushed off furniture, being disturbed while sleeping, being given a bath or having his coat brushed, or when unfamiliar people approach the home or yard.
For a New Family to Know:
Rocky is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and excitable. Rock has a high activity level and loves to play with all types of toys. In the home, he liked to follow the owner around or play with owners other dog. Rocky was kept mostly indoors & is house trained. He rarely ever had an accident in owners home. Owner stated that Rocky ate both wet & dry food brand Pedigree. When Rocky was left alone in the home or yard, he would destroy items such as socks, paper, etc and would dig holes outside. He knows the cues sit and come. For exercise, owner would let Rocky play in the yard. When Rocky is on leash, he tends to pull very hard. Owner was unable to walk Rocky off leash as he would run away.
Behavior during intake: Rocky was loose and wiggly during intake. He kept jumping on counselor and giving kisses throughout the intake. I was able to scan for a mc, collar and take a picture without any issues.

Other notes: Rocky is described as friendly, affectionate, playful, and excitable. Rocky has a high activity level and loves to play with all types of toys. Rocky was returned for destructive behavior and being too hyper, he recently ate a pool cover.
ASSESSMENT:
Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is wagging with relaxed body posture, open mouth, ears back
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, playful towards end of game.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are relaxed
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not pull back paw, licks assessor’s hand
Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog shows brief bout of enthusiasm, quickly loses focus.
SAFER Assessment Summary: Rocky was friendly during assessment but displayed high energy and movement, at times jumping on assessor playfully. Will require daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks, runs, exercise, and play to positively direct his enthusiasm.

Rocky is a 3 year old neutered Pit Bull Terrier Mix that has no past or current medical issues that the previous owner is aware of. Rocky was just currently adopted from SIACC but previous owner has returned Rocky to SIACC due to his destructive behavior
Socialization:
According to the previous owner, around strangers, Rocky is friendly and outgoing. Around adults and children, Rocky is respectful and playful. With adults, Rocky plays in an exuberant and sometimes somewhat rough manner. With children, Rocky plays in a gentle manner. There were no other animals in the home so no information about interacting with cats or dogs is available. Rocky has never bitten a person or another animal in the previous owners care.
Behavior:
Previous owners stated that Rocky has behavioral issues such as destroying things indoors. These destructive episodes only happen when previous owner was not in the home. Previous owner attempted to place Rocky into a crate but he would get overstimulated and too mouthy.
For a New Family to Know:
Rocky is described as friendly, affectionate, excitable, and playful with a very high activity level. When in the home, Rocky is the type to follow you around seeking attention. Rocky was kept mostly indoors. According to previous owner, Rocky is very house-trained and didn’t have any accidents. Rocky usually goes to the bathroom on the grass. When left alone in the home, is when Rocky would be destructive. He destroyed the window screens and a bedroom door. It seems Rocky may have separation anxiety. When left alone in the yard, Rocky was well-behaved. For exercise, he enjoyed brisk walks with the previous owner and playing in the yard. On the leash, Rocky can pull hard very hard.

A volunteer writes: Rocky is a playful, fun dog. He loves running and plays a mean game of tug of war. Rocky is treat-motivated and will sit at the mere sight of a treat. Rocky has a lot of energy and love to give. Rocky would do best in an active household… no couch potatoes please. Rocky is a 2 year old neutered male Pointer/Pit-bull Mix that has no past or current medical issues that the owner is aware of. Owner has had Rocky since he was 6 weeks old but had to surrender due to personal problems.
Socialization:
According to the owner, around strangers, Rocky is friendly and plays gently with everyone. He has been around a 7 yr old child & owner stated he was always relaxed & respectful around her. When Rocky gets overstimulated he does nibble. He has been around other dogs and cats & owner stated he was relaxed & respectful of them. He has never bit another animal or person while in the care of the owner.
Behavior:
Rocky is not bothered by loud noises such as thunderstorms or fireworks. Owner has never tried to take away Rocky’s food, or brush his coat therefore behavior is unknown. He is not bothered by haing someone hold/restrain him, having his coat brushed, or being given a bath. When unfamiliar people would approach owners home or yard, Rocky would bark.
For a New Family to Know:
Rocky is described as friendly, affectionate, playful and excitable with a very high activity level. In the home he likes to follow the owner around. His favorite toys are chew toys and bones. Rocky was kept indoors only and is house trained. He has never had an accident in the home. When owner would leave him alone in the home, he was well behaved. He knows the commands sit, down, and paw. For exercise, owner would take him on slow walks outside or off leash at the park. On the leash, Rocky does pull hard. In the home, he was fed dry food only brand name Pedigree.
Behavior during intake: Rocky was relaxed and approached me right away during intake with a soft relaxed body. I Was able to scan him for a mc, collar him and take a picture without any issue. I did notice when he got too excited from petting he would nip my hand lightly.
SAFER:
Rocky came into our center as an owner surrender citing owner’s declining health. According to the owner, around strangers, Rocky is friendly and plays gently with everyone. He has been around a 7 yr old child & also teenagers, relaxed and respectful. When Rocky gets overstimulated he does nibble. He has been around other dogs and cats & owner stated he was relaxed & respectful of them. Owner reports Rocky is housetrained, has never had an accident in the home, well behaved when home alone. He reportedly knows the cues ‘sit’, ‘down’, and ‘paw’. Rocky is described as friendly, affectionate, playful and excitable with a very high activity level. During intake, Rocky was relaxed and allowed all handling, but nipped (lightly) excitedly from getting excited during petting. He pulled on leash for his relief walk. Rocky jumped up to lick assessor’s face during Look item. He leaned into assessor during Sensitivity item, ears back, tail wagging. Rocky was distracted and unresponsive to touch during Tag game, excitedly grabbed leash but released it quickly. He mouthed assessor’s hand without pressure during both Squeeze attempts. Rocky kept a firm grip on Toy with his paw, body not stiff. He approached the helper dog quickly, tail above spine level. The Behavior Team feels Rocky would do best with an Experienced adopter that can provide daily mental and physical stimulation in the forms of walks (preferably with harness), runs, exercise, play. He would benefit from obedience classes to learn leash manners as well as not to jump up or mouth.
Look: 1. Dog jumps up to lick the Assessor’s face with tail wagging, ears back and eyes averted.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.
Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, grabs leash but releases easily
Squeeze 1 / 2: 2. Dog gently places his open mouth over the Assessor’s hand without applying pressure.
Toy 1: 2. Dog takes toy away, keeps a firm hold with paw, not stiff
Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches the helper dog quickly, body soft, tail well above spine level
GROUP BEHAVIOR
When off leash with other dogs, Rocky appeared unsure when greeted by a playful female. He did not engage in play but often explored the yard with the company of another dog.
9/6 update
Rocky rushes to greet a rowdy female, they both engage in brief running and jumping play. Rocky will attempt to mount at times and can over correct when the female gets too rowdy.
