PLAYGROUP: When off leash at the Care Center, Rocko displays nervous body language-ears back, offers looks away, and keeps his distance-when greeting a novel male and female dog. He eventually exchanges genital sniffs, and is a bit sexually motivated but does not mount. He explores the pen most of the session. According to Rocko’s previous owner, Rocko has never lived with other dogs; however, he becomes tense and constantly barks at them, on leash. The Behavior Department recommends that Rocko be placed with respectful dogs that match his calm demeanor. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 8/10/17: Upon intake Rocko was very high energy when he was approach by the counselor, he allowed all handling. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 8/11/17: During his medical examination, Rocko was good for exam but became tense with blood work being done on him. Muzzle was needed for precaution.
ENERGY LEVEL: His previous owner reports a high activity level, which matches what we have seen in the care center. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experienced adopter, adult-only home _X_No children (under 13): Rocko displays a very high energy level during his time at the care center. This, in addition to his previous owner’s notes that he displays a very high energy level and must be supervised around children. We will be most comfortable and most likely to thrive in an adult-only home. Potential challenges: _X_House soiling: Rocko was reportedly not walked on leash in his previous home, so he has not learned to eliminate outside or in appropriate indoor spots. He will need guidance to learn where to eliminate in his new home. Accidents should never be punished as it can damage the human-dog relationship and is likely to make the problem worse. _X_Anxiety: Rocko has shown some signs of potential anxiety in the care center, vocalizing (whining, barking and panting) continually through the SAFER and through play sessions outside. This behavior was not reported at intake, and we have no known history on Rocko so we cannot be certain whether similar behavior will be seen in a future home environment.
