05/21/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
05/21/16 16:14 Basic Info: Rockie A1074569 is a 1yr old male white & brown brindle American Bulldog mix who was given to the owner from the previous owner a month ago & is being surrendered due to landlord conflict/too big. Rockie hasn’t been seen by a veterinarian and currently has no known health issues. Socialization: Around strangers Rockie is very friendly/outgoing. He’s lived with an 8yr old and was exuberant, very playful & somewhat rough with them (during play he doesn’t know his strength) also with the adults in the home. Rockie briefly lived with an older female Pitbull that he was afraid of. When he spots an animal on the street he’ll bark or ignore them. Rockie hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal. Behavior: Rockie is a hyper & excited boy. Rockie’s behaviors are unknown for the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being disturbed while sleeping/resting, being brushed or having his nails trimmed. During baths Rockie isn’t bothered. If someone approaches the home/family member he’ll excitedly bark & jumps on them to greet them & play. For A New Family to Know: Rockie is very friendly, affectionate, very playful, confident, & excitable with a very high activity level. The owner likes how friendly he is. Rockie enjoys playing with ball, squeaky, rope toys and games of fetch & tug. He’s mostly an indoor only dog who sleeps on linen or with one of the adults & is walked 1-2x a day where he pulls strongly on his leash. Rockie eats dry dog Beneful food 2x a day and likes any kind of dog treats. Rockie’s known commands are “sit” & “stay” that he doesn’t always listen to. Intake Behavior: Rockie allowed all handling. He was very wiggly and seemed to enjoy hugs, kisses, belly rubs and being on your lap. Rockie allowed to be scanned (-), collared & taken pictures of. Rockie was then partically coaxed into his kennel with dry & wet dog food mixed together but then he walked into the kennel hind first.
05/28/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes “This big lug was quite excited to go out for some fresh air. He was jumpy and eager in his cage, so excited to walk with me. I noticed he hadn’t touched his food. Perhaps he needed to go first. He did calm down a bit when I made it clear I wouldn’t open his kennel until he calmed down. Smart dog. He seems to understand what people want of him. He pulled quite strongly on the way to the park. In the park, I showered him with butt rubs, ear scratches and head pets. He paid me back by making a concerted effort to heel on the way back to the shelter! He didn’t lunge at passing dogs on the street or in the park. I appreciated that! Good boy. Back at the shelter, he wasn’t ready to go back in his kennel. Who would? He loved the walk, he loved the affection. It makes him a good boy. And this good boy is now waiting for you to make him into the best boy he can ever be, with you.” A volunteer writes: You have to know that when I was walking this handsome dude I was singing the theme song from Rocky. Sylvester Stallone where are you? When I came to leash Rockie for our walk he sat down with his butt on the bed, his feet on the ground. He won my heart immediately with that move! Rockie is stunning, beautifully groomed, adorable freckled nose, nice weight for his size and is a friendly, engaging fellow. He’s likely housetrained and does pull hard on the leash so will benefit from a harness and/or some leash training to make it a more enjoyable walk for both ends of the leash. Rockie was surrendered to our care due to landlord issues and we’re told that he lived with an 8 year old child and was playful, sometimes not knowing his own strength. We’re told that for a brief time he lived with an older female pitbull and was afraid of her, and is fine with being given a bath. He greets everyone like a long lost friend, jumping on them with a big doggy hello. He enjoys playing with toys, knows ‘sit’ and ‘stay’, but doesn’t always do as asked (just like kids), and during intake liked being hugged, kissed and getting a belly rub. Rockie is a young dog who likes action, loving, and playtime and would love an active family with love, playtime, and structure on the daily ‘to do’ list. He’s an awesome boy who will make an awesome companion.

05/23/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Rockie has mostly been polite and appropriate with both males and females–greeting politely and exploring the yard. He did attempt to mount one female but ceased when correction was offered. His owner reports he “briefly lived with an older female Pitbull that he was afraid of. When he spots an animal on the street he’ll bark or ignore them.” Based on this information the behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction to ensure compatability between Rockie and any resident dogs. When off leash with other dogs, Rockie briefly sniffs the greeter, then resumes to ignore and investigate his surroundings. 5/26 update: Rockie greets, sniffs, and roams in a pen with a male and a female dog. 5/27 update: Rockie is sexually motivated but ceases attempting to mount once corrected.
