07/19/16 16:05 BASIC INFORMATION: Rocket is a brown/balck American Pit bull terr mix, 1 yr old male. Rocket was given to the owner as a gift & has no known health issues. Rocket was surrendered to ACC due to pet conflict. SOCIALIZATION: Rocket is friendly & outgoing towards strangers. When strangers come near, he seeks attention. Rocket loves to be pet & plays gently with adults & children. Rocket has been exposed to 10 month old & 3-4 yr old children. Rocket gets along well with children & is tolerant of child play. Rocket has been exposed to two other dogs. The other dogs appear to not get along with Rocket & he was bitten less than 10 days ago by one of the dogs. Although the other dogs did not get along with him, Rocket loves to play with dogs & enjoys the presence of dogs in the park. Rocket has been exposed to neighborhood cats and is friendly towards them. Rocket has not bitten another animal or person within the past 10 days. BEHAVIOR: Rocket allows the owner to come near him while he is eating & also allows the owner to remove an object from his mouth with ease. Rocket allows the owner to groom him as well. He doe snot bark when there is someone unfamiliar outside of the home. Rocket needs training since he still bites and chews on house hold items that are left lying around. Rocket will sometimes dig holes in the yard when he is bored. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW: Rocket is best described as a friendly, affectionate & playful dog. he has a high activity level & loves to go out for runs and brisk walks. Rocket will follow the owner around the home when the owner arrives home. rocket enjoys playing with squeaky toys & balls. He will play fetch & tug. Rocket would do best with a family that has a lot of space in the home & energy. Rocket has been kept mostly indoors. He enjoys sleeping on the owners bed or on the floor. Rocket enjoys eating dry & wet food from brand Wellness. Rocket enjoys treats from any brand. He is house trained, prefers to go potty on grass areas & well behaved in the home as long as there are no items laying around the floor that he may chew on. Rocket is familiar with commands, sit, paw, lay & kiss. Rocket walks well on the leash, but will pull when he becomes excited to see another dog and wants to play. BEHAVIOR UPON INTAKE: Upon intake, Rocket appeared to have a loose body, wagging tail & an open mouth. Allowed all handling and scanned negative.

Helper dog: A1081210 Rocket previously lived with adults and has been around children ages 10 month, 3-4 years old. The owner stated Rocket is friendly and affectionate towards strangers, adults and children. The owner mention Rocket has been exposed to neighborhood cats and is friendly towards them. The owner describes Rocket as a friendly, affectionate and playful dog. It was reported by the owner Rocket is house trained, has a high activity level and well behaved when home alone. According to the owner Rocket can be destructive in the home if items are left around the floor. It was stated by the owner on 7/19/16 at 12am, Rocket was approaching a family member that was arriving home. While greeting the family member, another dog suddenly bit Rocket’s right ear. The owner mentioned Rocket did not attack the dog and both dogs ran away in different directions after the incident happened. The bite caused an open flesh wound. At intake it was reported Rocket was loose and wiggly with his tail wagging, he allowed all handling. During SAFER Rocket came into the assessment room loose and wiggly, he was friendly, playful and affectionate towards the assessor. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Rocket joins the game during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Rocket was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Rocket appears to be sociable, and did not display any behaviors concerns, so the department feels he can be suitable for an “Average” adopter. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog jumps on Assessor once play ends. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2:1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Dog-dog: 2. Dog approaches helper dog with tail at spine level, body soft, ears relaxed, and lip neutral.
