The owner took Ricky to a vet (no medical paperwork provided) and was prescribed pain medication and the vet stated to Carlos Ricky may have Cancer but tests weren’t done at the time. What do you get when you cross a Pomeranian with a Chihuahua and add a whole lot of sweetness and snuggle spice? Say hello to pretty Ricky, the middle-aged Pomchi with a personality even more adorable than his looks! When his lifelong owner moved somewhere pets weren’t welcome, Ricky had to come stay with us at the Care Center and he misses his person dearly, crying alone in his den and clinging onto shoulders for comfort and cuddles. Described as friendly, outgoing, affectionate, playful and mellow, his former owner loved how well behaved and laid back Ricky is and tells us he’s cool with any kind of grooming, even when it comes to bath time–which must be why this silky-coated cutie smells so good! A slow and steady leash walker and seemingly house (and weewee pad) trained, Ricky is so easy to handle and a cinch to pick up and carry in your arms–even if a rice’n’chicken diet has left him a little on the chunky side. This good boy is already neutered and now that he’s earned the best possible scores on his behavior assessment, Ricky is ready to leave for his forever home whenever you are. PROFILE
Ricky A1064194 is a 10yr old neutered male Chihuahua/Pomeranian mix who was given to the owner 10yrs ago and is being surrendered due to the owner moving to where pets aren’t allowed and Ricky being older. Ricky fell about 3wks ago and was taken to a vet where he was prescribed pain medication.
Socialization:
Around strangers Ricky is friendly/outgoing. Ricky hasn’t been around children or other animals. With the adult in the home Ricky is gentle, exuberant, relaxed & playful (at times). Ricky hasn’t bitten/scratched any person or animal.
Behavior:
Behaviors are unknown for the following: having his food/food bowl, toys/treats touched/moved, being moved off of furniture, being held/restrained or being disturbed while sleeping/resting. Ricky isn’t bothered by the following: bath time, having his nails trimmed, being brushed or if someone unfamiliar approaches the home or family member.
For a New Family to Know:
Ricky is described as friendly, affectionate, playful (at times), mellow & excitable (at times) with a low-medium activity level. The owner likes how well behaved & laid back Ricky is. Ricky enjoys being given affection and walking outside. When the owner is home Ricky follows them around. He plays with ball, squeaky & stuffed toys sometimes. Ricky sleeps on a dog bed and eats dry Pedigree dog food at times but mostly eats home cooked chicken & rice 2-3x a day although he hasn’t eaten his normal amount the past couple of days. Ricky is well behaved when left home alone and is house broken, he’ll “go” on wee wee pads but is also walked 2x a day where he doesn’t pull on the leash.
Intake Behavior:
Ricky had a loose wiggly tail and approached me to pick him up. He allowed me to scan (-), collar & take his picture. Throughout the photo shoot he appeared to want me to be close to him so he could climb up onto my chest/shoulder area (as he managed to do a couple of times). Ricky was then picked up, carried like a baby and placed into a kennel with ease.

SAFER:
Ricky walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body.  He was calm and relaxed during handling. Ricky had a low body position during the tag test, but followed the assessor at the end of the leash.
He was not interested in toys.
Ricky was surrender to us. According to his previous owner Ricky Around strangers is friendly and outgoing. Ricky hasn’t been around children or other animals. With the adult in the home Ricky is gentle, exuberant, relaxed & playful (at times). The owner doesn’t know how Ricky will react having his food, food bowl, toys, treats touched”. Ricky did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home.
Look: 1. Dog holds gaze with soft eyes, soft body. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds.
Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item.
Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful.
Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw.
Toy: 1.No interest.
Playgroup Notes:
When off leash with other dogs Ricky greets and shows continued interest in the other dogs but does not engage in play.
