04/20/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rhino came to us as an owner surrender due to his behavior towards people and animals. Rhino lived with an 11 year old and was recorded to be relaxed and gentle around his family. According ot the owner Rhino will lunge, hard bark, and growl at strangers and all animals he sees on the street or at the door of the house but has never bitten anyone. Rhino was very eager to come out of his kennel for his relief walk. He pulled very hard on the leash during his walk and would at times would look at the assessor with a hard stare. He became a bit anxious in the behavior room whining slightly and occasionally jumping up on the assessor strongly. He allowed the assessor to conduct all tactile assessment items without displaying any signs of aggression. Rhino showed some concerning behavior over the toy, growling over it as the assessor attempted to take it with the assess-a-hand. Due to the owner’s comments regarding Rhino’s behavior toward strangers we recommend Rhino be placed with a new hope partner who can provide behavior modification before placement into a new home. Look: 2. Dog holds gaze with tense body language. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Dog holds gaze for three full seconds. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is neutral, body a bit tense, mouth closed, lip long, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body soft. Squeeze 1: 2. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back, body a bit tense. Squeeze 2: 2. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back, body a bit tense. Toy 1: 4. Dog growls. When off leash with other dogs, Rhino greets the helper dog softly and wanders the pen. He is nervous about the handlers in the pen.
