ENERGY LEVEL: His owner reports Rex having a medium level of energy. In the care center, Rex displays a high level of activity. He is a young, social, enthusiastic dog who will benefit from daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend daily walks, runs, exercise, and play.
IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS: At the care center Rex has displayed highly social behavior with handlers, seeking attention and petting when outside of his kennel. He is easily handled by all staff. He engages in exuberant fetch play with balls when outside in the pens, trading nicely for treats or balls. RECOMMENDATIONS: New Hope Only _X_No children _X_New Hope Only: Due to Rex’ multiple bite history, we believe placement with a New Hope only rescue partner would be most beneficial at this time. Potential challenges: _X_Basic manners/Poor impulse control: Rex was a bit difficult to position and lacked focus during his handling assessment. It is recommended that default behaviors such as “Leave it”, “Sit/Stay”, “Down” are reinforced to substitute any frustration and teach him to control his impulses instead of simply reacting. Force-free, reward based training only is recommended. _X_ Potential for defensive aggression: Rex has shown that if bitten he will bite in defense. While we cannot be certain if this behavior will appear in any other contexts, in highly emotionally charged or stressful environments where someone/something causes Rex physical pain he may show similar response. It is important to make sure Rex is not pushed to escalate to a bite by being in unsafe situations that can cause him harm. _X_Multiple bite history
