09/23/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
09/23/16 18:50 Rex is very friendly around strangers and wants to run up to them for attention. He is very good with kids, he is gentle and comfortable around them, he has been in a home with a 2, 8 and 10 year old. Rex is great with other dogs and has also lived in a home with another Shih Tzu whom he interacted with daily and got along great with. Rex is house trained and but needs to be walked at least 3 times a day to relieve himself. He does not destroy anything other than his own sheets or bedding. He is nervous around loud noises like fireworks and will become frantic looking for cover. He does not mind ahving his food, treats or toys touched or taken. He is not bothered by being bathed, brushed or blow dryed. He barks when he heaars people outside his door. Rex has a high level of energy and lieks to play with ballls. He is crated when owners are away or asllep and sometimes pulls hard when on the leash. He can be walked off leash but might run after other dogs, listens to owner only. He knows the commands sit, come, go home, relas and go eat. He is fed pedigree dry food and human food like rice and meats around three times a day. Rex entered with a soft body and wagging tail and was curious of his surroundings. He allowed all handling and maintained his soft disposition.
09/25/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: I can see why Rexy was given this regal name. He is still quite a catch at 12 years of age but he must have been such an attractive hulk in his prime. Rexy is ready when you are. Leashed in no time, he walks beautifully and proudly, marking only slightly his territory and sniffing a lot along the way. He looks so athletic…He is not prey driven by the pigeons and not even by the squirrels who have multiplied exponentially in the park, nagging every dog in sight….Rexy is a cool cat who looks very comfortable, wags his tail a lot, complies with orders and is one friendly and sociable character. He lets you know that he likes caresses, having his eyes cleaned and his little silky ears kissed…. My time with him is very pleasurable, calm and peaceful. That’s what I really love in a pet…Rexy got as a result, 3 walks out of me yesterday….Rexy is with us as his owners could not care for a pet anymore. He lived and loved to be with his many human kids, had a ShiTzu as playmate and is said to be great with his peers. He would be house trained(we verified this) and crate trained and very active and playful. Rexy seems to be quite a healthy dog (beside the mass he carries on his back), active, super lovable and fun to be with…He is a great guy, collected, spirited, active, affectionate and i am totally smitten by him. Come and meet him at the Manhattan Care Center. I hope you will feel the way I feel about him and realize that Rexy might be an oldie but he is also an amazing goodie …

Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rexy came to us as an owner surrender on 9/23/16. Owner reported that he lived with children ages two, eight, and ten and that he was gentle and comfortable around them. It is also reported that he lived with a small dog that he got along great with and that he is housetrained. Owners stated that he does not mind having his food, treats, or toys take and that he has a high energy level. Upon intake he had a wagging tail and allowed all handling. In the assessment room he appeared friendly and social. For Look, his eyes were averted, tail wagging, body soft. His body was soft during Sensitivity, mouth open, tail wagging. For Tag he followed, playful and a bit distracted. He did not pull back his paw on either Squeeze attempt. He took the Toy away, body not stiff, keeping a firm grip. When approaching another dog at the care center on leash, Rex approaches quickly, tail at spine level, body not stiff. The Behavior Team recommends that Rex be placed in an Average home. Look: 1.
