08/12/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/12/16 11:45 Rex is a 10 year old male nuetered tan and white american pitbull terrier german shepherd mixed dog who is being surrendered because the family is moving and cannot bring him to their new residence. Rex has been with his family since he was a puppy. Rex lived in his home with 4 adults and 3 small children (ages 11-16) and is said to be playful and interactive with the whole family. Rex also lived with another small dog who is receptive and playful towards as well. When visitors come to the home Rex will bark to alert the family but does not interact with them because he is then moved to the yard. Rex gets his exercise from yard play and does not go on walks but is house broken and does not have accidents inside. Rex had not lived with cats. Rex is tolerant of a bath but has not had his nail trims. Rex has been seen by a vet in the past and there have not been any reports about difficulty handling. Rex does not guard his food and if owner takes it while he is Rex will just watch. He does not guard his toys or treats either. If he is on the bed or couch he is easily removed. Rex knows the cue sit and stay. He enjoys playing running games in the yard especially fetch. When the family is home he likes to be where they are. When home alone he is well behaved. Upon intake Rex was not handled. Counselor was able to photograph but did not collar and scanning was done in medical. Rex walked well on leash and was responsive to guidance but was cautious to his new environment.

08/16/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Rex previously lived with 4 adults and 3 small children (ages 11-16). The owner stated Rex and is playful and interactive with the whole family. The owner mentioned Rex also lived with another small dog who is receptive and playful towards each other. It was reported by the owner Rex is house broken and well behaved When home alone. At intake it was reported Rex was not handled. During SAFER Rex came into the assessment room tense and fearful, he was not interested towards the assessor, not all handling items were able to be conducted as Rex bared his teeth and growled at the assessor when attempting to pet him. He displayed no interest in the resource item during this portion of the assessment. In light of this behavior we feel that placement with a New Hope partner who can provide positive reinforcement-based behavior modification is the best option at this time. Toy 1: No interest. Dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Rex initially is hesitant to approach the gate but eventually does and enters the pen nervously with a tucked tail and body. He greets very briefly but mostly avoids further interaction and explores the yard.
