03/01/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
03/01/16 18:08 BASIC INFO Renzon is a 3.5 year old APBT mix. His family got him as a gift from a friend when he was 1-2 weeks old. They can’t keep him due to lack of time, a new baby, and landlord conflict. SOCIALIZATION Renzon is shy with new people but comes friendly with them within 20 minutes of meeting them. He lived with a child from 2-6 years old and is relaxed, playful, and tolerant with him. He plays somewhat rough with people. He’s relaxed and playful with dogs he meets outside. He’s never bit anyone. BEHAVIOR Renzon doesn’t mind storms. He doesn’t mind if someone takes his food/treat/toy, moves him off furniture, holds/restrains him, wakes him up, bathes him, or brushes him. Outside, he doesn’t mind when strangers pass or approach his owner. When strangers come over, he barks (growly) at them at first. His owners keep him in his crate for about 20 minutes and then let him out and he’s friendly with them. FOR A NEW FAMILY TO KNOW Renzon’s family describes him as friendly, affectionate, playful, mellow, and high energy. He follows his family. He likes balls and plays fetch and chase. He lived inside and slept in an open dog crate. He ate dry and wet Pedigree food and enjoyed dog treats. He’s housetrained, pottied outside, and didn’t have accidents. He’s well-behaved while home alone. He went for brisk walks and pulled on his leash. INTAKE Renzon was tense and barked (deep) if we looked at him or approached him. He ate treats we tossed him. He didn’t lunge. After about 5-10 minutes, he stopped barking and his body softened. He approached us and took treats gently from us. He sat next to me and sniffed me with a soft body. He walked with us on his leash without pulling and sat when asked for pictures. He lied next to me while I worked. Another dog was on the other side of the room and he maintained a soft body, watching from the other side of the gate. He may have heard something as he sat and faced the wall barking for about 1 minute. His owner collared him. We didn’t scan or pet him.

A volunteer writes: Pssst! Wanna know a secret? My name is Renzon and I LOVE to play! Everyone thinks I’ve shut down after losing my family and my home and it’s true, I am having a hard time adjusting to life in a kennel (I’m used to an open crate), not to mention all these strangers wanting to examine me for stuff called ‘medical’ and ‘behavior’. But last night I met a new type of person called a volunteer and she gave me tasty treats to show I could trust her. I like treats a lot so I sat down when she asked and licked them softly, and even though I was scared, I let her bring the leash near my face a few times too. Before I knew it, the rope was over my head and we were off to the yard! There’s one thing guaranteed to bring me out of my shell and that’s the sound of playtime. It sounds like ‘squeak squeak squeak’ and it comes from a toy. Boy, do I love toys! I’m not much of a fetcher (more of a chomp-bounce-kicker) but I’ll chase anything you throw then come back for more and I know how to sit and wait too. I’m still a bit hand-shy but because I was having so much fun with my new friend I let her dress me in a bandanna, pet me all over and even pull the ball right out my mouth. Bouncing and barking are all part of the game but I know not to jump up on kids because I grew up with a little human sibling and they are too small for jumping on. Volunteer told me what a good walker I was and every time I went potty she was so happy for me you’d think I’d won an Olympic medal or something! When I see the other dogs at the Care Center I wag my tail a little but I’m usually a lot more playful and I heard my family tell the people here that I’m good with other dogs and friendly, affectionate and energetic as well. And I am! Even when I was safe at home I did get a bit nervous if strangers came over but my parents solved it by keeping me in my crate for about 20 minutes so I could get used to them and after that it was all cool. So here we are. Me, a handsome family dog who’s house trained, knows commands and loves to play and you, a dog-savvy person looking for an active, loyal and loving companion. Sounds like a perfect match to me!
