SOCIALIZATION Remy is a little shy around strangers so you have to talk to her and get her to trust you. She does warm up after a while, especially if you give her treats and food. Remy plays gentle with adults. She has never lived with a child. the owner stated that Remy does not like any other dgs, it does not matter what size or breed. she has never bitten anybody. BEHAVIOR The only behavior issue that Remy has is that she does not like other animals. She is also wee-wee pad trained. Remy is fed Pedigree dry dog food. BEHAVIOR DURING INTAKE Remy was nervous at first, licked her lips and crouched to the ground while interview process, after Counselor offered treats and food, she got more trusting and did a play bow. 08/02/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Remy is an adorable “roussette” left with us by her former owner as he could not care for a pet anymore. She comes with good recommendations but would be initially shy around strangers and would not like to spend time with other animals (no detail was left with us concerning the matter). Remy acts indeed a bit shy in her kennel, and as we walk in the hallways, her tail is between her legs. On the way to the park, she perks up, looks much happier and directly hops on a bench before I even sit. As I settle, she gratifies me with a big kiss and lick on the face. I guess Remy deserves a treat. She absolutely loves them. She gets a lot of compliments from passersby. Her giant ears are a hit…as well as her big smile. In the park, although many pooches big and small were encountered, Remy remained civil with all of them. Remy has been beautifully cared for. She is pretty, quite petite at 37 pounds, well nourished and lovely dressed. Remy will be looking for a new home to call her own and a human to love. Maybe it could be you? Come and meet her soon at the Manhattan Care Center. Another volunteer writes: Remy knows this isn’t where she belongs…so quiet in her kennel, her tail is tucked as we walk through the building. But once outside, her tail comes up and she wags as we walk. Sitting sweetly for treats, joining me on the bench for some cuddles, she still seems concerned about where her people went. Beautifully groomed, soft and easy, once she tags you as a friend she’s cuddly and loving. Remy knows that there is a new person or family out there to love to the moon and back and I reassure her we’ll find that person for her. Please come meet her to see if you’re the one, and help my promise to her come true.
08/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Remy came into our center as an owner surrender on 7/28/2016. It is reported she is initially shy, but will warm up, especially with food or treats. Behavior around children is unknown. Owner reports Remy allows people to take her Food, water, Toy, will allow bathing and responds to the cue “get into the tub and soak”. It is reported Remy is housebroken to go outside on grass and also indoors on wee wee pads. She knows the cues ‘sit’, ‘stay’, and ‘lay down’. During intake, Remy was initially nervous, licking her lips and crouching, but warmed up to counselor after being offered treats, eventually play bowing. She walked low on her relief walk, uncomfortable, but warmed up to handler. Remy climbed into handler’s lap upon entering SAFER assessment room. She was reserved and aloof with assessor, pulled out of assessor’s hands on all three Look attempts. Remy stood still during Sensitivity item, a bit cautious, lip lick, ears back. She was distracted during Tag game, focused on the exit, unresponsive to each pass. Remy required some gentle coaxing to approach for positioning of Squeeze item. She moved her body away on first paw Squeeze attempt, therefore remaining item was conducted using Flank. She had no response to both Flank Squeezes. She was initially fearful during Toy item, backing away from approaching assess-a-hand. Once hand was taken away, Remy licked Toy, play bowed, and relinquished easily. Although owner reports Remy does not like other dogs, she was relaxed upon approaching the helper dog, tail at spine level, investigated and then turned away. The Behavior Team feels Remy would do best with an Experienced owner that does not have young children. She may initially benefit from a calm, quiet, structured environment so she can relax and warm up at her own pace. Once comfortable, Remy was affectionate and responsive to handler. Look: 2. pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, her eyes are averted, her tail is between her legs, body cautious, mouth closed, ears back, lip lick. Tag: 2. fearful but unresponsive when touched, focused on exit Squeeze 1: 3. Dog is soft in body and eye, and moves her legs/body so that the Assessor is unable to hold the paw Flank squeeze 1 / 2. Dog does not respond at all. Toy 1. Dog is initially fearful of approaching hand, eventually licks toy and play bows, relinquishes Dog – dog 2. Dog approa
08/02/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
8/2: When off leash with other dogs, Remy is nervous and uncomfortable. She remains tense, curled up, and runs away from approach. Remy’s previous owner cites that she “does not like other dogs” with no further detail. The behavior team feels that at this time, Remy would be most comfortable as the only resident dog until her behavior can be followed up on. 8/5 update: Remy is more comfortable, greeting the helper dog with loose body and a wagging tail. She will occasionally re-approach but is more interested in exploring her surroundings.
