04/16/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Remsen has a brown spot in the middle of his head that seems like it’s meant to be kissed, touched for good luck, or just admired — he is so cute! He looks well-cared for and each of his facial expressions is better than the last. He was a little shy when we first met, but seemed to want to connect and once we did he quickly revealed his playful side. He loves to play fetch and can really jump high to meet the ball halfway! He seems to have a fair amount of energy and is happy to burn it off with a toy in his mouth. He can get a little jumpy and mouthy when he’s excited, but I haven’t had any problems getting him to calm down almost immediately. He walks pretty calmly on leash after he’s relieved himself (he seems very housebroken) and will “sit” for treats. Remsen not only loves to have fun, he loves good company too! He’s very affectionate and will prop his paws in my lap, hit himself in the face with his tail while getting pet, and then celebrate with a play-bow-shuffle! This guy is really a catch — come check him out at Brooklyn ACC!
04/07/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Remsen came in as a stray, so his past behaviors in a home are unknown. At intake it was reported Remsen was nervous and tense, he did allow all handling. During SAFER Remsen came into the assessment room calm and relaxed, he was social towards the assessor with a slow approach. He allowed all handling items to be conducted without issue. Remsen was easily aroused with body tense and vocal during the tag interaction, and during the resources portion of the assessment Remsen was easy to handle when engaged with the item. Due to some concerns on tag item becoming easily aroused, the behavior department feels he can be suitable for an experience adopter with no young children. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 3. Dog gets easily aroused with tense body language and slowly de-escalates. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted and his ears are back. Toy: 1. Minimal interest in Toy, dog smells, then turns away. dog-dog: When off leash with other dogs, Remsen greets with a soft body then explores the yard, occasionally exchanging sniffs with the greeter dog.
