03/07/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Reginald is a gorgeous dog, clad in a stunning and shiny tiger brindle coat. This well cared for dog was found by a good samaritan and brought to the care center as ..a stray…Reginald is tall, strong and very energetic. He is a super playful pooch who loves the ball and any kind of toys. Playing ball with him is to see an athlete in action… He runs, jumps, never fails to catch and does not mind to release the ball in my hand. He is one enthusiastic fellow… He is pretty friendly, wags his tail alot and enjoys very much to be caressed and cared for. Reginald pulls quite a bit on the leash and sometimes wants to take the lead. A toy in his mouth takes quickly care of the problem. A dog of his standing is of course housetrained. Reginald likes doggy girls very much which is expected from an un-neutered male but he is also welcoming of same sex dogs through the fence. Reginald needs an active owner. I know he would enjoy running, climbing, all kinds of ball games and frisbees…So, if you are the healthy and athletic type, Reginald is the dog for you, waiting impatiently to meet you and be your new forever best friend. Come and see hiom at the Manhattan Care Center.
03/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Reginald pulls a bit on the leash. He was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. He was overexcited during handling, jumping up, mouthy (light), grabbing at the leash (soft) and was hard to position, but showed no aggression. Reginald engages in play, body is loose and wiggly but played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction but wasn’t very difficult to distract him. He took the toy away but had soft body language. Reginald appears to be a high-energy dog that will likely do best with an adopter prepared to provide mental and physical stimulation and appropriate outlets for his energy. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment Look: 3. Dog jumps on the Assessor, consistently rubs his shoulder on the Assessor, and will not allow Assessor to conduct the assessment. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. His body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog assumes play position and joins the game and played tug-of-war with the leash during tag interaction but wasn’t very difficult to distract him. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. He does not place his body between you and the toy. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Reginald engages in rough, bouncy play initially, with an intent to mount. He listens to correct from the female dog.
03/04/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Reginald engages in rough play but also will mount both males and females. He jumps over the other dogs but may be aroused when entering the yard. He arrived at the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. The behavior department recommends a pre-adoption interaction to ensure the resident dog is comfortable with Reginald’s play style. When off leash with other dogs, Reginald engages in rough, bouncy play initially, with an intent to mount. He listens to correction from the female dog. 3/8 update: Reginald is aroused and pushy when entering the pen. He frantically attempts to mount males and females. 3/9 update: Reginald displays less high arousal when greeting in a pen with two female dogs. He still displays some sexually motivated behavior.
