A Little Bit About Me…

A volunteer writes: If you’re hankering for a grown-up pet in a puppy-sized package with the playful, silly sweetness to match then you’ve definitely come to the right place–Reggie’s all that and a bag of chips! I had to do a double take when I saw his age as even in his den this tiny cutie has the bouncy energy of a baby and such a soft, angelic face that it’s hard to believe he’s passed his first birthday, let alone his second. Once I’ve wrangled his wiggly-waggly butt into a coat and harness we hit the street for a surprisingly easy stroll as he walks nicely, takes care of business, greets fellow dogs with glee and has a grand old time snuffling around in the snow. Reggie sits politely for treats and gives the sweetest kisses but it’s off leash in the yard that he really lets loose and his true colors shine brightest. He just can’t get enough of toys, jumping to grab them, dashing through the snow to fetch them and bringing them back for a rousing round of tug, which I let him win of course. He celebrates by shaking the dickens out of his prize then returns to my side to start the game all over again. If you’re passionate about life and have the high energy and big heart to keep up with his lovable shenanigans then run, don’t walk, to our Manhattan Care Center and ask for Reggie by name, he can’t wait to meet you!

Let’s get to know each other a bit more…

My medical notes are…

Details on my behavior are…

Date of assessment: 7-Jan-2018

Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions.

Sensitivity: 1. Dog leans into the Assessor, eyes soft or squinty, soft and loose body, open mouth.

Tag: 1. Dog assumes play position and joins the game. Or dog indicates play with huffing, soft ‘popping’ of the body, etc. Dog might jump on Assessor once play begins.

Paw squeeze 1: 2. Dog quickly pulls back.

Paw squeeze 2: 2. Dog quickly pull back.

Flank squeeze 1: Item not conducted

Flank squeeze 2: Item not conducted

Toy: 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. Dog does not place his/her body between you and the toy.

Summary: Reggie quickly approached the assessor in the assessment room with a soft body. He was vocal during the assessment, was social, and allowed all handling. He displayed no concerning behaviors.

PLAY GROUP

1/6: When introduced off leash to a female dog, Reggie greets with loose body and attempts to play.

Date of intake: 5-Jan-2018

Summary: Upon intake, Reggie had a loose and wiggly body.

Date of initial: 5-Jan-2018

Summary: Reggie was tense.

ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Reggie so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION: AVERAGE (suitable for an adopter with an average amount of dog experience)

You may know me from such films as…
