A volunteer writes: If I were still in school I would spend all day (every day!) doodling hearts with Red Bone’s name in them. He is easily among the most engaging, sweet and charming beings I have ever met and I think he leaves everyone that crosses his path completely smitten! There is something human-like about his facial expressions and he is super easy to connect with (and he’s eager to do just that!). He has been easy to handle on leash and wiggles his entire back end like a puppy throughout our walks. He constantly looks back and when I tell him how much I like him he does a tap dance with his front paws and takes it as an invite to lean all of his weight against me and weave in and out of the space between my knees like a cat! He seems housebroken, likes to play tug, sits for treats like a star (and takes them like a gentleman), and peacefully walks alongside pigeons. Plus, he has the most adorable habit of bunching up his blankets in order to make himself a pillow. He is the best and deserves the same (including all the pillows in the world!)…please come see this very special guy at Brooklyn ACC!
06/08/2017 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
KNOWN HISTORY: None 6/6/17 Unaltered Male, Stray Other notes: SAFER ASSESSMENT: 6/8/17 Look:2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity:1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog follows but becomes anxious (whining and barking) and attempts to exit the assessment room. Squeeze 1&2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy 1: No interest. Summary: Red Bone was friendly and social towards the assessor. PLAYGROUP: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Red Bone has not been fully comfortable socializing with other dogs, displaying stiff body language when they approach. He displays appropriate body language, turning his head away, indicating that he does not wish to interact. Red Bone was surrendered as a stray so his past behavior around dogs is unknown. The Behavior Department believes that Red Bone would be most comfortable as the only dog is the home. DOG-DOG ASSESSMENT: Selective: These dogs can succeed with certain other dogs, but may be more selective or picky. They may dislike certain ‘types’ of dogs or styles of dog play so they may require extra supervision when interacting with other dogs. INTAKE BEHAVIOR 6/6/17: Upon intake Red Bone was easy to handle. MEDICAL BEHAVIOR: 6/6/17: During his medical examination, Red Bone was muzzled due to him being fearful. ENERGY LEVEL: We have no history on Red Bone so we cannot be certain of his behavior in a home environment. However, he is a young, enthusiastic, social dog who will need daily mental and physical activity to keep him engaged and exercised. We recommend long-lasting chews, food puzzles, and hide-and-seek games, in additional to physical exercise, to positively direct his energy and enthusiasm. RECOMMENDATIONS: Experience (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with behaviors outlined below) _x_Single-dog home/Recommend no dog parks: Due to Red Bone’s discomfort around other dogs, the Behavior Department recommends that he be the only resident dog.
