Summary (1):: When off leash at the Care Center, Red is sexually motivated, and attempts to mount the female greeter. Red listens to her corrections, and explores the pens. He briefly participates in running chase play with both male and female dogs. He eventually calms down and keeps to himself. According to Red’s previous owner, Red did not socialize with other dogs but wags his tail when he sees them. The Behavior Department recommends that Red be placed in a home with resident dogs that are well socialized and matches his energy. 10/20: Red is sexually motivated. He persistently sniffs the greeter’s genitals and attempts to mount her. He ignores the handler’s interruptions. 10/21: Red was introduced to a novel male dog and is a bit tense at first, but then play bows and runs around the play yard. He barks and becomes frustrated when the play isn’t reciprocated. 10/22: Red attempts to mount a novel female. When she corrects him he desists and wanders in the pen. 10/23-24: Red is tolerant of high energy, running chase play with an assertive female. 10/25: Today, Red was much calmer and kept to himself most of the session. He is slightly uncomfortable with the novel female dog’s persistent greet; displaying hackles up and tense body. 10/26-29: In a group of calm female dogs, Red mostly keeps to himself. He is slightly sexually motivated, but does not mount.

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: EXPERIENCE (suitable for an adopter with some previous dog experience, especially with the behaviors outlined below)
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Potential challenges: : House soiling,Destructive behavior
Potential challenges comments:: House soiling:Red has reportedly not walked on leash in his previous home, so he has not learned to eliminate outside or in appropriate indoor spots. He will need guidance to learn where to eliminate in his new home. Destructive Behavior: Red is reported to show destructive behavior in the home, such as chewing on shoes. We are unaware of what, if any, attempts were made to remedy this behavior but we suggest to future adopters that Red will need to be provided with physical and mental stimulation and with a variety of appropriate and engaging chew toys so he can engage in necessary chewing behavior without further damage to human objects.
