08/28/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
08/28/16 17:31 Behavior during intake: Raya allowed me to pet her, collar her and restrain her. She had a wagging tail and very wiggly body. She was relaxed when I told her to sit and laid down calmly. When she saw another dog she would back and lunge but listened to cues when I said be nice she also allowed me to restrain her while she was barking.
09/11/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: A petite black’n’white cookie just as sweet as she looks, young Raya is like sunshine on a cloudy day! Her soft smile is irresistibly charming, her markings so precise they look painted on and her personality the ideal balance of independent and affectionate, well-behaved and spunky. She’s eager to show off her ‘come’ and ‘sit’ commands and kisses her reward treats very gently from my hand and while she pulls a little on leash it’s only because there’s such a lot of world out there to see (and sniff) she simply can’t hold in the excitement! Raya may not be a fan of little dogs but she’s learning quickly when it comes to socializing with like-sized pups and today she greeted a big boy Pittie through the fence with polite good manners and the tiniest tail wag. An apartment-sized cutie perfect for an active, experienced family with lots of love to give, Raya is so ready for her second chance and can’t wait to get back to doing what she does best–spreading sunshine and smiles wherever she goes.
09/02/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Raya pulls a bit on the leash. She was excited but very interested in interacting with handler during assessment – jumped up. Raya was excited during some of the handling items, but had soft body language. She was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. Raya took the toy away but had soft body language. She rushed in confidently towards the friendly dog; body is tense, ears erect and high tail wag. During intake Raya allowed the admission counselor to pet her, collar her and restrain her. She had a wagging tail and very wiggly body. She was relaxed when the counselor told her to sit and laid down calmly. When she saw another dog she would back and lunge but listened to cues when the counselor said be nice she also allowed him to restrain her while she was barking. The behavior department feels that she may do best with an experienced adopter who can follow up on this behavior in a more stable environment and can provide any necessary behavior modification. Look: 2. Dog pulls out of Assessor’s hands each time without settling during three repetitions. Sensitivity: 2. Dog displays high energy and movement, but it is directed toward getting closer to the Assessor. Her body is soft, likely panting, may jump up between attempts to lick Assessor. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) she is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1/2: 1. Dog gently pulls back her paw. Toy 1. Dog settles close, keeps a firm grip and is loose and wiggly. She does not place her body between you and the toy. Dog – dog 3. Dog approaches the helper dog by rushing in with her tail high, stiff body, head tall, and ears erect. Helper:A1088114
09/06/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
A muzzle is applied to Raya due to history of incident involving Raya biting a smaller dog on-leash before her arrival into our care. When greeting through a barrier, she becomes tense and begins to hard bark. Once allowed in the pen, she is initially occupied with the presence of the muzzle, however does intently sniff the male greeter dog with a bit of a tene body. She loosens up and offers a few solicitous bumps and nudges before becoming preoccupied with the muzzle once again. The interaction is ended and when she greets again, she is relaxed, sniffs briefly then walks away. The behavior team feels that Raya would be most comfortable as the only resident dog in a new home at this time, and that handlers should remain vigilant and cautious when walking Raya on-leash in areas with high amounts of dog traffic, as most of her concerning behavior around dogs has been reported to have occured in on-leash scenarios.
