06/30/2016 PET PROFILE MEMO
06/30/16 21:20 Ray is a 7 month old mixed Labrador and American Pit-Bull mix. He was given to owners and has been in their care since he was 5 months. He is being surrendered into our center due to owner not having time. There are no known health injuries or concerns. Around strangers he is friendly and gentle. He has been around a child and is usually tolerant and somewhat rough when he plays. There is no known history of him being around other dogs or cats. There is no known history of him biting another animal or person. When items are left unattended in the home he will destroy them. During storms or fireworks he isn’t bothered. You’re able to touch his food bowl while eating and take treats, objects and toys away from him. He isn’t bothered when he is getting a bath, nails are trimmed and coat is being brushed. When being taken off of furniture he will growl. When unfamiliar people approach you or the home he is friendly. Ray is described as being friendly with a high activity level that would do best in a family home. He enjoys running, playing with his squeaky toy and games such as fetch and tug. When home he will follow you around, he was mostly kept indoors, slept on his dog bed and at dry food at least 2 times a day. He is house trained and rarely has accidents in the home. When left alone in the home he destroys furniture such as chairs. When left alone in the yard he will bark. He knows such commands as “sit” and “stay”. For exercise he goes on brisk walks or plays in the yard. On leash he pulls lightly off leash he will run away. Usuall he will potty on the grass, cement or dirt.

07/01/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – EXPERIENCE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ray’s previous owner notes that he is friendly and gentle with strangers but has never been around cats or other dogs. He is reported to be tolerant around children but may play a bit roughly. He may destroy household items when left unattended (which items he goes after is not clear). He may growl when removed from furniture, but showed no possessive behavior over food, toys, or other objects. He is described as friendly and with a high activity level. Ray was a bit timid when brought in for his behavior evaluation, needing coaxing to approach the assessor, but he showed no red flag behaviors. He allowed all handling items though he remained tense throughout. He did not engage with the toy and showed no interest when the toy was removed. Interacting with other dogs in playgroup allowed Ray to relax, and he warmed up quickly to the other dogs, soliciting gentle play. We recommend an experienced adopter for Ray who will allow him to warm up to his new home and new family at his own pace. We also advise that potential adopters be prepared to provide reward-based training and guidance to help Ray become a successful family pet, as he is still a young dog who will likely need some additional help to learn appropriate behavior in a home. The home may need to be puppy-proofed to prevent Ray from making human items into toys, and Ray will need to be provided with a suppy of engaging toys to provide physical and mental exercise. Look: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted. His body posture is a bit tense and fearful, his tail is low and not moving, mouth open and panting. He allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, his tail is between his legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears back. Tag: 1. Follows at end of leash, body low and a bit fearful. Squeeze 1 & 2: 1. Dog does not respond at all for three seconds. His eyes are averted. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup: When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Ray is initially nervous, greeting the female dog with a low body. As the session continues, Ray becomes more relaxed and solicits gentle play. He engaged and solicited gentle play in a group consisting of male and female adult dogs as well as a puppy.
07/01/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
According to Ray’s previous owner, Ray has no known history being around other dogs. When off leash with dogs at the Care Center, Ray was initially nervous but was able to engage in gentle play in a group of males, females and puppies. When chase play ensues, Ray becomes slightly over-aroused, running behind the other dog, low growling. He quickly deescalates when the other dog take a break from running and is able to continue wandering in the pen. He is uncomfortable entering into a larger group of playful dogs and will correct their play and wander in the pen. 7/1: Ray is initially nervous, greeting the female dog with a low body. As the session continues, Ray becomes more relaxed and solicits gentle play. He engaged and solicited gentle play in a group consisting of male and female adult dogs as well as a puppy. 7/2: In group play today, Ray initially engaged in gentle play. When chase play ensues, Ray becomes slightly over-aroused, running behind the other dog, low growling. He quickly deescalates when the other dog take a break from running and is able to continue wandering in the pen. 7/5: Ray is a bit uncomfortable as he enters into a group of playful male and female dogs. He corrects when they begin to play and spends his time wandering in the pen.
