02/08/2016 WEB MEMO
A volunteer writes: Ravello… He made quite a great impression on me, and on others who have spent time with him over the last few days. Calm in his kennel, a great walker, house trained, obedient, attuned to his caretaker, a good “sitter”, not a jumper or overexcited and very polite when it comes to treats. Last but not least, Ravello is a very friendly dog who comes on the bench, squeezes next to his caretaker and melts under caresses. Ravello might have been found as a stray but he looks absolutely gorgeous and healthy in his magnificent silvery coat that shows some imperfections on his back. He looks so gentle and collected. A little “choir boy”. He does pull toward other dogs though, and has shown some discomfort with male peers in playgroups. Ravello is hoping to meet you soon at the Manhattan Care Center, charm you with his good looks and manners and leave with you as your new forever best friend.
02/05/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – AVERAGE
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Ravello walks calmly on leash. He was sociable toward the handler during the assessment – soft body. He was calm and relaxed during handling. Ravello was distracted, focused on objects in the room rather than the handler during the tag test. He was not interested in toys. Ravello did not show any concern during the behavior assessment. The behavior department feels that he can go to an Average home. Look: 1. Dog’s eyes are averted. His ears are back, his tail is down, and he has a relaxed body posture. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands. Sensitivity: 1. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, his eyes are averted, and his tail is in neutral position with relaxed body posture. Dog’s mouth is likely closed for at least a portion of the assessment item. Tag: 2. Dog is not fearful, but is unresponsive to the Assessor, and approaches the Assessor at the end of the game (may need coaxing to approach.) He is focused on stimuli other than the Assessor. Squeeze 1: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Squeeze 2: 1. Dog gently pulls back his paw. Toy: 1. No interest. Playgroup Notes: When off leash with other dogs, Ravello does not offer greeting at the gate. Once allowed inside the pens, he approaches, briefly sniffs with a neutral body, then wanders the pen.
02/04/2016 GROUP BEHAVIOR EVALUATION
Exam Type GROUP BEHAVIOR
Ravello is sexually motivated when interacting with female dogs (he is currently unaltered). When he is offered correction he does not cease attempting to mount. He has repeatedly shown an aversion to male dogs–stiffening, growling and barking when they attempt to greet him at the gate. He entered the care center as a stray, so any in-home behaviors with other dogs are unknown. Based on these observations, the behavior department recommends Ravello have a pre-adoption interaction and to not go to a home with another male. When off leash with other dogs, Ravello does not offer greeting at the gate. Once allowed inside the pens, he approaches, briefly sniffs with a neutral body, then wanders the pen. 2/6 update: Ravello follows the other dog and sniffs her posturing to mount but does not–he takes the other dogs correction well. If a male is in an adjacent pen, he stiffens and eventually growls then barks if the male does not move away. 2/7 update: Ravello calmy greets the female dog. He appears sexually motivated and postures to mount the other dog.
