Hello, my name is Ranger. My animal id is #7963. I am a desexed male brown brindle dog at the Manhattan Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 2 years 1 months 3 weeks old.
I came into the shelter as a stray on 01-Nov-2017.
Ranger is at risk for behavioral reasons. He is dog reactive, especially whilst on leash. Ranger is sociable with people and easy to manage on lead. He does not presently have any medical concerns.

Recheck CIRDC, day 11 S/O BAR, appears energetic and friendly in cage no nasal discharge, sneezing or coughing noted appears eupnic, no heart murmur noted previously A CIRDC-appears clear P okay to move from isolation scheduled neuter tomorrow
Pre-surgical exam S: Alert, relaxed, allows all handling O: BAR-H, MMs pink and moist EENT: Many pink healing wounds on face and ears – ears are very erythematous. No discharge OU, nose, AU PLNs: Not enlarged. H/L: NSR, NMA. Eupnic, quiet lung sounds. Abd: Soft, no pain on palpation, no masses palpated M/S/I: Amb x4. UG: Male, testicles S/S Neuro: Alert and appropriate, no sign neurological deficiencies A: Many healing wounds from bite injuries P: Neuter today
[Surgery Template – Dog Neuter] Was this dog a cryptorchid? No If so describe – Pre scrotal Incision Spermatic Cord Ligation with: 2-0 PDS in modified Miller’s knots (2 per spermatic cord) Sub Q closure: 2-0 PDS in simple continuous Skin closure? 2-0 PDS in intradermal Pre-Meds Administered-Ace-0.07mL and Hydro-1mL Sedatives Administered-Midazolam-1.6mL and Propofol-Range-8-12cc Pain managements Administered-Rimadyl 1mL SQ IV Catheter(LRS) was placed with a rate-200mL/HR. Ranger is a 2 year old male intact Pit Bull that presented to MACC after getting in a fight with his housemate, who was also surrendered. He had multiple superficial puncture wounds and excoriations consistent with bite wounds. At this time, he is mentally appropriate with no concerns of Rabies.

Oral Exam: Not performed PLN: No enlargements noted H/L: NSR, NMA, CRT < 2, Lungs clear, eupnic ABD: Non painful, no masses palpated U/G: Male neutered MSI: Ambulatory x 4, skin free of parasites, no masses noted, healthy hair coat. Small amount of alopecia caudal to ears – no wounds noted. CNS: Mentation appropriate – no signs of neurologic abnormalities Rectal: Normal externally Assessment: Previous bite wounds healed. Upon intake, Ranger had a loose body. Ranger allowed all handling.
Spay/Neuter Status: Neutered
Basic Information:: Ranger is a 2 year old neutered medium mixed breed dog that the owner got when he was a puppy. The owner got Ranger from a friend. The owner is surrendering because Ranger bit the other dog in the home this morning. The owner has never been able to take Ranger to the vet but he suspects some food allergies because one time Ranger broke out into hives but the owner does not know what he ate that caused that.
Previously lived with:: Some puppies, 1 adult dog, 3 adults
How is this dog around strangers?: Ranger is described as very shy around strangers at first and then he quickly warms up to them.
How is this dog around children?: The owner has kept Ranger away from children.
How is this dog around other dogs?: Ranger is not good with other dogs, he growls at them and has attacked them in the past.
How is this dog around cats?: Ranger is not good around cats, he tries to attack them.
Resource guarding:: The owner has never touched Ranger’s bowl while he was eating.
Bite history:: Ranger has been to ACC in the past for biting and this morning he bit a puppy on the ear.

Other Notes:: The owner has never touched Ranger’s bowl while he was eating, taken away a treat, taken Ranger off furniture, when he is disturbed while he is sleeping, or cut his nails. Ranger is not bothered when a toy is taken from him, when he is bathed, when he is brushed, or when the doorbell rings.
For a New Family to Know: The owner describes Ranger as very confusing. The owner’s favorite thing about Ranger are his eyes. Ranger’s favorite thing to do is play. When the owner is home, Ranger follows her around. Ranger likes to play with balls and squeaky toys. Ranger likes to play fetch and tug. Ranger has been kept mostly indoors. Ranger sleeps in his crate. Ranger is fed 2 cups of purina dry food. Sometimes Ranger has accidents at home when he is not walked on time. When taken out, Ranger uses the grass. Ranger spends most of his time in his crate so he does well in his crate. Ranger knows how to sit, stay, come here, lay down, and give paw on command. On a leash, Ranger pulls lightly. Off leash, Ranger stays by the owner’s side.

Bite history:: Yes, Ranger has gotten into two fights with the dogs he lived with over food. Both dogs had multiple bites on them and the owner received a bite breaking up the fight.

Look:: 2. Dog’s eyes are averted, body posture is stiff and fearful, tail is low and not moving. Dog allows head to be held loosely in Assessor’s cupped hands.
Sensitivity:: 2. Dog stands still and accepts the touch, eyes are averted, tail is between legs, body stiff, mouth closed, lip long, ears likely back, may lip lick.
Tag:: 2. Dog is fearful but unresponsive when touched. Approaches the Assessor when the game ends. Dog is likely crouching, may have a long lip or lip lick.

IN SHELTER OBSERVATIONS:: Ranger is highly social when interacting with his human caretakers, though has displayed on leash reactivity towards other dogs. Ranger is calm and shy, yet actively seeks/solicits attention from handlers; he has displayed no handling concerns.
