02/17/2016 BEHAVIOR EVALUATION – NH ONLY
Exam Type BEHAVIOR
Randy was surrendered by his previous owner due to aggression displayed in the home. Randy has not interacted with children but his previous owner says that he will growl, bark, and lunge at children so a future home without children is highly advised. Randy growled and barked at the cat in the home and so was kept on a separate floor, so the owner also advises a home without other pets. Randy was kept in a separate room when strangers came to the home as he would growl and bark at them upon entering. Randy has a known bite history, having bitten the owner’s father on the hand (bit and let go), though the bite did not break skin. The trigger for this bite and details of the situation surrounding the bite are not known. Randy will lunge when his food or other items are removed. Randy has not allowed any touch or interaction in the care center and has reacted poorly to attempts at handling. He did not respond to treats and was barking, snarling, and baring teeth in his kennel. Randy avoided being leashed for several hours in the kennel, and a catch pole was used for safety, but Randy continued to lunge and snap at the catch pole. He needed sedation to remove from the transport van and was then given his initial medical examination. Due to Randy’s known history, his behavior in the care center thus far, and staff safety concerns, he will not receive a SAFER aggression assessment. Please refer to Randy’s owner profile and the summary above for known behaviors.
