Randy
Hello, my name is Randy. My animal id is #10320. I am a desexed male white dog at the Brooklyn Animal Care Center. The shelter thinks I am about 15 years old.
I came into the shelter as a owner surrender on 20-Oct-2017, with the surrender reason stated as animal health – cannot afford vet bill.
Randy 10320 is at risk for his medical condition, including a mass, lick granuloma, and geriatric with possible underlying chronic condition. Please see the veterinary notes for further details and clarification. Behaviorally, he has been fearful and avoids interaction, escalating to warning behaviors (snapping) when prevented from escaping. He does warm up with time and a slow, gentle approach, so we recommend an adult-only home and adopters that will allow Randy to warm up to his new home and new family at his own pace.
My medical notes are…
Weight: 20.6 lbs

BEHAVIOR DETERMINATION:: ADULT ONLY HOME
Behavior Asilomar: TM – Treatable-Manageable
Recommendations:: No children (under 13)
Recommendations comments:: Randy has been extremely timid and hesitant to interact during his time at the care center. This, in addition to his previous owner’s notes that he is frightened of children and will growl, causes us to feel that Randy will be most comfortable and most likely to thrive in an adult-only home.
Potential challenges: : Fearful/potential for defensive aggression
Potential challenges comments:: Randy gives clear warnings when he is uncomfortable and does seem to choose to avoid or retreat when given the opportunity, but if prevented from moving away there is a potential to escalate to higher-level warning behaviors and possible fear-based aggression. It is important to move slowly with Randy, to build positive associations (treats/toys/praise), and to allow Randy to initiate interactions with new people. He should never be forced to greet or to interact if he is not comfortable and soliciting attention.
